Underscoring a renewed appetite for Latin American cinema, Buena Vista<\/a> has secured Latin American and U.S. rights to \u201cPepita,\u201d the latest feature from renowned Argentine writer-director Luc\u00eda Puenzo<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The news was announced to Variety by Puenzo at the South International Series Festival in C\u00e1diz, whose third edition closed Wednesday Sept. 17 with the screening of Puenzo\u2019s \u201cFuturo Desierto<\/a>,\u201d a Mexican dystopian drama series teaming Gaumont USA, Paramount TV Intl. Studios and Tis Studios.<\/p>\n

A real life-inspired story<\/p>\n

In post, \u201cPepita\u201d toplines Argentine star Luisana Lopilato<\/a>, who also serves as executive producer.<\/p>\n

Inspired by the notorious real-life figure of Margarita Di Tullio, known as \u201cPepita La Pistolera,\u201d the film charts her rise from glamorous madame in Mar del Plata\u2019s underworld to infamous legend after a triple homicide in 1985 that cemented her place in Argentina\u2019s criminal mythology.<\/p>\n
