On Wednesday, ABC pulled Kimmel\u2019s show<\/span> from the air over comments the host made surrounding the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk during Tuesday night\u2019s monologue. Kimmel said, in part, that some right-wingers were trying to \u201cscore political points\u201d in the aftermath of the shooting, and also played a clip<\/a> of President Trump responding to a question about Kirk\u2019s death by crowing about a new ballroom he\u2019s constructing at the White House.<\/p>\n More from Rolling Stone<\/strong><\/p>\n Apparently, this was too much for Nexstar, \u201cAmerica\u2019s largest local television broadcasting group,\u201d and ABC and its parent company, Disney, bowed to Nexstar\u2019s pressure. \u201cJimmy Kimmel Live will be pre-empted indefinitely,\u201d an ABC spokesperson told Rolling Stone. The spokesperson did not clarify the reason behind the decision. (Earlier on Wednesday, Trump\u2019s Federal Communications Commission chairman, Brendan Carr, publicly\u00a0called on<\/a>\u00a0licensed broadcasters to stop airing Kimmel\u2019s show.)<\/p>\n If Kimmel doesn\u2019t return \u2014\u00a0Trump, in a TruthSocial post, said the show was \u201ccancelled\u201d \u2014\u00a0that\u2019d make Price\u2019s performance an ironic capstone to the series\u2019 22-year run. \u201cDon\u2019t Let the Bastards Get You Down,\u201d off the Nashville country singer\u2019s latest album Hard Headed Woman, was inspired by both The Handmaid\u2019s Tale author Margaret Atwood and a quote that Kris Kristofferson said<\/a> to comfort Sinead O\u2019Connor in 1992 after the Irish singer was booed after tearing up a picture of Pope John Paul II on Saturday Night Live.
