ABC said on Wednesday that it was taking Jimmy Kimmel\u2019s late-night talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live!<\/em> off the air indefinitely<\/a> following criticism of on-air comments Kimmel made in the wake of conservative activist Charlie Kirk\u2019s killing<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cJimmy Kimmel Live! will be pre-empted indefinitely,\u201d an ABC spokesperson said in a brief statement to media outlets on Wednesday night.<\/p>\n

Earlier Wednesday, FCC Chairman Brendan Carr characterized Kimmel\u2019s remarks as \u201ctruly sick\u201d in an interview with right-wing podcaster Benny Johnson on Wednesday<\/a> and said the Disney-owned network should hold Kimmel accountable or face punishment.<\/p>\n

“This is a very, very serious issue right now for Disney,\u201d Carr said. \u201cWe can do this the easy way or the hard way. These companies can find ways to take action on Kimmel or there is going to be additional work for the FCC ahead.”<\/p>\n

Appearing on CNBC Thursday<\/a>, Carr said that Kimmel appeared to \u201cmislead\u201d the American public \u201cabout a significant fact\u201d in the case.<\/p>\n

What did Kimmel say, exactly?<\/h2>\n

During his monologue on Monday, Kimmel suggested that President Trump\u2019s supporters were trying to \u201cscore political points\u201d by portraying Kirk\u2019s accused killer, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, as a left-wing radical.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think very good,\u201d Trump replied. \u201cAnd by the way, right there where you see all the trucks, they just started construction of the new ballroom for the White House, which is something they\u2019ve been trying to get, as you know, for about 150 years, and it\u2019s gonna be a beauty.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, he\u2019s at the fourth stage of grief: construction,\u201d Kimmel said. \u201cDemolition, construction. This is not how an adult grieves the murder of someone he called a friend. This is how a 4-year-old mourns a goldfish.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a post on Truth Social on Wednesday night, Trump called it \u201cGreat News for America.\u201d<\/p>\n
