Matt Cameron<\/a> gave some more tidbits on his decision to stop holding down the drum kit for Pearl Jam <\/a>after 27 years.<\/p>\n In an interview with Billboard<\/a>, the longtime drummer provided a couple of reasons, ranging from a desire to explore other musical endeavors to apprehension about the Seattle grunge\/alternative band\u2019s penchant for playing long shows.<\/p>\n Cameron, 62, announced his departure from the band in July through the band\u2019s Instagram<\/a> in a statement. At that point, there was no further elaboration as to what caused the split. The drummer stated in an interview that his former band members knew his departure was inevitable. \u201cI definitely gave them a lot of notice, said Cameron. \u201cI\u2019ve spoken with Jeff [Ament] and Stone [Gossard] a little bit\u2026 It\u2019s been fine. Hopefully we\u2019ll get back together at some point and have a beer or something.\u201d<\/p>\n In addition to the drummer saying he wanted to \u201credirect his time and energy\u201d to what he wants to pursue as an artist at this point. Cameron went on to speak about Pearl Jam\u2019s show length and extensive touring schedule as factors in his decision as well.<\/p>\n \u201cI was having some issues with [Pearl Jam\u2019s] three-hour shows and constant touring and stuff,\u201d said the drummer. \u201cThat\u2019s definitely an art form unto itself, to be able to do those types of shows\u2026I\u2019m at a point now where I want to do a face-melting 70-minute set, and that\u2019s kind of what I\u2019m focusing on right now.\u201d<\/p>\n Cameron initially joined Pearl Jam in 1998 after Soundgarden\u2019s breakup and the departure of drummer Jack Irons. He has since rejoined Soundgarden and is assisting in the efforts of creating a new album with the surviving members, which will feature vocals recorded by Chris Cornell prior to the singer\u2019s death in 2017. Cameron will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame<\/a> with the band on November 8th.
