The Colombian twin sister duo Las \u00c1\u00f1ez are set to make their US debut this October with two performances and a guest appearance in New York State.<\/p>\n
They\u2019ll play New York City\u2019s<\/a> America\u2019s Society on Friday, October 3, at 7:00 p.m., and the following day (Saturday, October 4), they\u2019ll perform at Elmhurst\u2019s Terraza 7<\/a> at 7:00 p.m. If you want to catch them before October, they\u2019ll be singing two songs with Chancha Via Circuito at Brooklyn\u2019s Xanadu <\/a>on September 30.<\/p>\n Las \u00c1\u00f1ez\u2019s music finds its roots in Colombian folk music, blending inspirations from subgenres such as son jarocho, jota carupanera,\u00a0joropo,\u00a0and the\u00a0historical rhythms of the\u00a0Andes. The duo is made up of Bogot\u00e1\u2019s\u00a0Valentina and Juanita \u00c1\u00f1ez Rothmann, both of whom provide vocals, percussion, and compositions for their songs. On top of this, Valentina specializes in the cuatro (a Latin American string instrument), and Juanita offers her piano expertise to the duo\u2019s tracks.<\/p>\n The pair pride themselves on the minimal electronics used in their songs. More often than not, a Las \u00c1\u00f1ez tune will feature nothing more than vocals, percussion, a small keyboard, and a loop station to tie it all together.<\/p>\n Though their talents may be new to most Americans, they\u2019ve been celebrated throughout Latin America and Europe for years, having released four award-winning albums. Each album saw them collaborate with Colombian music icons, such as rock artist Andrea Echeverri\u00a0of Aterciopelados or Grammy-winner Marta G\u00f3mez.<\/p>\n
