Marc Maron<\/a><\/strong> is among the celebrities speaking out in wake of Disney-owned ABC\u2019s decision<\/a> on Sept. 17 to \u201cindefinitely\u201d take late night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel<\/a><\/strong> off the air after pressure from FCC chair Brendan Carr<\/strong> and ABC affiliates, following Kimmel\u2019s remarks about Charlie Kirk<\/strong>\u2019s accused killer.<\/p>\n The comedian-actor-podcaster took to Instagram<\/a> to share his views on Sept. 17 in a tightly shot selfie video that shows Maron with his hair slicked back, wearing glasses and speaking out about the controversial move.<\/p>\n \ud83c\udfac <\/strong>SIGN UP for Parade’s Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox<\/strong><\/a> \ud83c\udfac\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s happening. Jimmy Kimmel has been muzzled and taken off the air by his network ABC, who are buckling to and trying to appease the Nextstar media conglomerate, who have a lot of affiliates, and they threatened to preempt him at the suggestion of the FCC chair,\u201d Maron states.<\/p>\n \u201cThis is government censorship. This is the Trump<\/strong> administration coming after people who speak out against him. This is the end of it. If you have any concern or belief in real freedom or the Constitution and free speech, this is it. This is the deciding moment. This is what authoritarianism looks like right now in this country. It\u2019s happening,\u201d he adds.<\/p>\n \u201cSo if you\u2019re a free speech warrior or you really talk the talk about protecting free speech, this isn\u2019t about saying the R word or the T word or any of that. This is government censorship. This isn\u2019t f\u2014king Twitter. This isn\u2019t people getting cancelled because of a cultural pile on. This is the United States government silencing voices that they disagree with. FCC chair Carr put this out. This is his directive. This is the U.S. government.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cLook, if they can come for Kimmel, they can come for anybody. This is happening. It\u2019s time to act. Figure it out. Find a way. Come together. Push back because if this goes, it\u2019s over,\u201d he concludes.<\/p>\n To make sure his message was clear, Maron added captioning to his statement and posted in the caption, \u201cIt\u2019s time to act. Organize, speak out, be peaceful, be urgent.
