Kristin Chenoweth<\/strong><\/a> has addressed the backlash she\u2019s received from fans after paying tribute to Charlie Kirk<\/strong><\/a> following his tragic death.<\/p>\n

Chenoweth, 57, sat down with NY1\u2019s Frank DiLella<\/strong> for an interview<\/a> on Thursday, September 18, where DiLella brought up how her post was met with \u201cmixed reactions.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMixed? You\u2019re being kind,\u201d she replied.<\/p>\n

DiLella then brought up how Chenoweth has a \u201cbig LGBTQ+ fan base\u201d and how the Kirk, a conservative political activist, \u201copenly opposed same-sex marriage [and] trans rights.\u201d The journalist asked the Broadway star what she hoped to \u201cconvey\u201d in her tribute.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tHollywood stars are speaking out to mourn the death of controversial conservative commentator Charlie Kirk. News broke on Wednesday, September 10, that Kirk was shot and killed during a\u00a0 speaking engagement in Utah. He was 31. \u201cThe Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead,\u201d President Donald Trump wrote via his Truth Social platform. \u201cNo [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cOh goodness, I\u2019m sorry if emotion gets involved here, forgive me,\u201d she said while fighting back tears. \u201cI saw what happened online with my own eyes and I had a human moment of reflection right then.\u201d<\/p>\n

Chenoweth continued, \u201cI came to understand that my comment hurt some folks and that hurt me so badly. I would never. It\u2019s no secret that I\u2019m a Christian, that I\u2019m a person of faith. It\u2019s also no secret that I am an advocate for the LGBTQ+ community<\/a> and for some, that doesn\u2019t go together. But for me, it always has and it always will.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kirk died<\/a> at age 31 on September 10 after being shot during a speaking event at Utah Valley University. He is survived by wife<\/a> Erika Kirk<\/strong> and their two children.<\/p>\n

After news broke of Charlie\u2019s death, Chenoweth shared a tribute via social media.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m. So. Upset.,\u201d she wrote in the comment section of a March Turning Point USA Instagram post<\/a>. \u201cDidn\u2019t always agree but appreciated some perspectives. What a heartbreak. His young family. I know where he is now. Heaven. But still.\u201d<\/p>\n

Chenoweth was not the only star to speak out about the Turning Point USA cofounder\u2019s passing. Chris Pratt<\/strong>, Josh Duhamel<\/strong>, Rosie O\u2019Donnell<\/strong> and more shared their thoughts.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, September 16, Amanda Seyfried<\/strong> seemingly commented<\/a> on Charlie\u2019s death when she shared a message via her Instagram Stories that read, \u201cYou can\u2019t invite violence to the dinner table and be shocked when it starts eating.\u201d<\/p>\n
