Clayton Davis, Chief Awards Editor at\u00a0Variety, joined the\u00a0KTLA 5 Morning News\u00a0to share reactions from across the entertainment industry following ABC\u2019s decision to suspend\u00a0Jimmy Kimmel Live<\/a>.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday, ABC announced it was pulling Kimmel\u2019s late-night talk show off the air \u201cindefinitely\u201d after backlash over comments the host made during Monday night\u2019s monologue regarding the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The network\u2019s decision came after the FCC threatened action against ABC and its affiliates. It also followed an announcement from Nexstar Media Group \u2014 the nation\u2019s largest owner of local television stations and parent company of KTLA \u2014 that it would preempt the show \u201cfor the foreseeable future\u201d across its ABC-affiliated markets.<\/p>\n

\u201cMr. Kimmel\u2019s comments about the death of Mr. Kirk are offensive and insensitive at a critical time in our national political discourse,\u201d said Andrew Alford, president of Nexstar\u2019s broadcasting division, in a statement on Wednesday. \u201cWe do not believe they reflect the spectrum of opinions, views, or values of the local communities in which we are located.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nexstar announced this past August that it has entered into an agreement to acquire rival broadcast company Tegna<\/a> for $6.2 billion. This merger would require FCC approval.<\/p>\n

Demonstrators planned to protest the decision outside Kimmel\u2019s Hollywood production stage on Thursday afternoon.<\/p>\n

What Kimmel said<\/strong><\/p>\n

During his Monday night monologue, Kimmel criticized conservative media figures for their response to Kirk\u2019s fatal shooting at a large public event at Utah Valley University last week.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe MAGA gang is desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them, and doing everything they can to score political points from it,\u201d Kimmel said. \u201cIn between the finger-pointing, there was grieving.\u201d<\/p>\n
