Tom Fontana<\/a>, the respected showrunner known for HBO\u2019s \u201cOz\u201d and NBC<\/a>\u2019s \u201cHomicide: Life on the Street<\/a>,\u201d has been elected president of the Writers Guild of America East.<\/p>\n

The WGA East electoral results were disclosed Thursday evening. Fontana<\/a> defeated novelist and screenwriter Charles Kipps<\/a> for the top elected post at the union that represents more than 7,500 film and TV scribes who live east of the Mississippi River.<\/p>\n

Sasha Stewart<\/a> was elected Secretary-Treasurer. Michael Rauch<\/a> was elected Vice President of the Film\/Television\/Streaming sector. Nicole Conlan<\/a>, Chris Gethard<\/a>, Liz Hynes<\/a>, Sarah Montana<\/a>, Sharyn Rothstein<\/a> and Erica Saleh<\/a> were elected to serve on the Council representing Film\/TV\/Streaming members.<\/p>\n

Sie Morley, Nitish Pahwa<\/a> and Samantha Smylie were elected to serve on the Council representing Online Media members.<\/p>\n

Fontana will succeed Lisa Takeuchi Cullen<\/a> at the helm of WGA East. She served two terms as president and lead the guild…<\/p>\n
