Elton John<\/a> doesn\u2019t shy away from the strange and unusual. In his new documentary \u201cTouched By Gold,\u201d<\/a> released Monday, the legendary rocker revealed how he creatively preserved two body parts after undergoing surgery.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen I had my kneecaps removed, the left one first and then the right, I asked my surgeon if I could keep the kneecaps, which he was rather startled about \u2014 then I rang you,\u201d John said during the filming, noting that he gave jewelry designer Theo Fennell a call. \u201cThe Rocket Man\u201d singer then gave Fennell his kneecaps and told him to do \u201cwhat you want with them\u201d after his double knee replacement.<\/p>\n Fennell, who appears in the documentary, said his team then \u201cbaked\u201d John\u2019s kneecaps to \u201cdry them out,\u201d which ultimately made the bones raw like pumice stone and porous. The kneecaps were then able to be painted with acetate and polished.<\/p>\n In the end, John\u2019s right kneecap was transformed into a sparkling gold-plated necklace, featuring a diamond-lined hole in the center.<\/p>\n \u201cMy surgeon said I had the worst knees he\u2019s ever operated on,\u201d John revealed. \u201cThat hole was actually in my kneecap. It looks a bit like an old artifact from Egypt.\u201d <\/p>\n On the back of the necklace, an inscription in Latin reads, \u201cI will no longer bow to any man.\u201d Fennell humorously pointed out that this message is especially fitting considering that John is missing his kneecaps.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, John\u2019s other kneecap, which was smaller, was turned into a brooch as they couldn\u2019t do \u201cso much with it.\u201d.
