Ciara mourns the heartbreaking loss of director Diane Martel, who is known for creating iconic music videos for the industry’s top stars.<\/p>\n
The 63-year-old passed away on Thursday after battling breast cancer.<\/p>\n
In a statement obtained by Rolling Stone<\/a>, the family shared that the beloved filmmaker was surrounded by her loved ones at the time of her passing.<\/p>\n \u201cDiane passed away peacefully at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital\u00a0 \u2013 surrounded by friends and family \u2013 after a long battle with breast cancer,\u201d the statement reads, adding \u201cShe is survived by her Aunt, Gail Merrifield Papp (wife of Joseph Papp, founder of The Public Theatre), her three beloved, loyal cats (Poki, PopPop, PomPom) and many loving lifetime friends.\u201d<\/p>\n The New York native began her career in the music industry in the early 1990s and had her first break after working with Mariah Carey on her song \u201cDreamlover.\u201d<\/p>\n It was followed by her holiday hits like \u201cAll I Want for Christmas Is You\u201d and \u201cMiss You Most (At Christmas Time)\u201d as well as her music videos from the Butterfly album, \u201cThe Roof\u201d and \u201cBreakdown.\u201d<\/p>\n Besides the music legend, Martel also directed music videos for Justin Timberlake\u2019s \u201cLike I Love You,\u201d Beyonc\u00e9\u2019s \u201cListen,\u201d Robin Thicke\u2019s \u201cBlurred Lines\u201d and three of Miley Cyrus\u2019 songs, “Malibu,” “Younger Now,” and the iconic “We Can’t Stop.”<\/p>\n Among her many accomplishments, Martel also served as the creative director for the pop star\u2019s Bangerz Tour and Ciara\u2019s comeback music video for \u201cEcstasy.\u201d<\/p>\n Following her death, the \u201cLevel Up\u201d songstress dedicated a post on X honoring the life of the late director.<\/p>\n Ciara expressed her deep gratitude to Martel, whom she affectionately calls \u201cMiss D,\u201d saying she is \u201cforever grateful\u201d for her creativity.<\/p>\n \u201cYou believed in me and I believed in you! You will forever hold a special place in my heart and I am forever grateful for all the magic we\u2019ve were able to make together. I know it was all God! Heaven has just gained an Angel. I love you so much @DIANEMARTELOFF A.k.a. Miss D! Rest In Paradise,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n Along with a heartfelt tribute, the New York Giants WAG also shared photos with the music video director during the filming of \u201cEcstasy,\u201d showing their genuine closeness.<\/p>\n Fans also chimed in and shared their condolences, celebrating Martel\u2019s incredible impact on the music industry.<\/p>\n \u201cYou two were magic together.
