Adam Carolla<\/strong> defended his former co-host Jimmy Kimmel,<\/strong> amid the late-night comedian\u2019s indefinite suspension and revealed details of a conversation with him following his controversial Charlie Kirk<\/strong> comments.<\/p>\n Carolla addressed his friend\u2019s suspension this week on The Adam Carolla Show<\/em><\/a> where he acknowledged that Kimmel said something \u201cinaccurate,\u201d but he pushed back on the response to the comment. Carolla co-hosted The Man Show<\/em> with Kimmel for six seasons, and the two have remained friendly despite their almost-opposite politics. Kimmel has long been a vocal critic of President Donald Trump<\/strong>, while the more conservative Carolla has expressed some support for the administration and described himself as as Libertarian.<\/p>\n On Kimmel\u2019s show, the comedian accused<\/a> \u201cMAGA\u201d of \u201cdesperately trying\u201d to make out Kirk\u2019s suspected shooter<\/a> as \u201canything other than one of them.\u201d The comment sparked backlash, including from Nexstar, which owns dozens of ABC affiliates, which said they would preempt Kimmel\u2019s show for the foreseeable future. ABC eventually announced an indefinite suspension. Broadcast group Sinclair has also taken issue with Kimmel.<\/p>\n \u201cWe hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them,\u201d Kimmel said, referring to 22-year-old Tyler Robinson<\/strong>.<\/p>\n According to Utah officials, Robinson was \u201cindoctrinated\u201d<\/a> in \u201cleftist\u201d ideologies in the years leading up to Kirk\u2019s<\/a> murder.<\/p>\n Carolla said he does not believe his friend should have been suspended, and he accused both the left and the right of misinterpreting what was said.<\/p>\n He argued:<\/p>\n My feeling is this: I don\u2019t think he should have been fired. It\u2019s a weird thing. The right and the left are always sort of misinterpreting things. He was inaccurate about something. It wasn\u2019t like he was necessarily attacking Charlie Kirk. He was trying to dump it on Trump and inaccurate about it because that\u2019s what \u2014 we\u2019re living at a time where something happens. Nancy Pelosi\u2019s<\/strong> husband gets hit with a hammer. This side says he had a MAGA hat on. That side says he\u2019s some kind of nudist hippie\u2026 you know, that\u2019s all we do now. I don\u2019t feel like it\u2019s necessary, but that\u2019s, that\u2019s what we do.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n Carolla added that he doesn\u2019t like the government getting involved,\u201d referring to FCC Chair Brendan Carr<\/strong> red-flagging Kimmel\u2019s comment ahead of his suspension.<\/p>\n \u201cFrankly, when you see stuff like this, I mean look, we can do this the easy way or the hard way,\u201d Carr said<\/a>. \u201cThese companies can find ways to change conduct and take action, frankly, on Kimmel, or there\u2019s going to be additional work for the FCC ahead.\u201d<\/p>\n Carolla said he supports all sides getting the chance to speak and letting the \u201cratings do the talking.\u201d The comedian also blasted today\u2019s divisive culture where he argued that his conservative friends look at his liberal friends like \u201ccartoon characters,\u201d and vice versa.<\/p>\n Carolla said:<\/p>\n My perspective is different just because I know Jimmy. And I know Jim to be a very good guy and a generous guy. And I\u2019ve always said that about him. And I realized that while everyone else knows Jimmy as a caricature, I know him as a person. So when people, you know, when I run into the people that don\u2019t know Jimmy as a person, you know [Bill] O\u2019Reilly<\/strong> or Dave Rubin<\/strong> or Dennis Prager<\/strong> and they go, what\u2019s up with your buddy, Jimmy?<\/p>\n Well, I know him. So that\u2019s why I don\u2019t think of him like you think of them. But on the other hand, they think of you as a cartoon character too. And I know you, I know Dennis Prager is a very sweet man, lovely, lovely man\u2026 And then at a certain point there\u2019s the assassin who thinks of Charlie Kirk as a cartoon character, not a dude. I know him as a guy, sweet guy, fair guy, family guy. Good American, but that guy looks at him as a cartoon character, and that\u2019s why he gets to kill him, you see? And so I know Jimmy is a human, and I know how good he is, and I now how decent he is. And we disagree politically, but who cares?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n Earlier in the show, Carolla described a conversation he had with Kimmel after his suspension in which the comedian referenced the \u201cstrange times\u201d they are living in.<\/p>\n \u201cI just sent him a text because you want to be on record as understanding or knowing or whatever,\u201d Carolla said. \u201cIt just said, you know, \u2018Thinking about you.
