Halsey<\/a> has claimed she is \u201cnot allowed\u201d to make a new album yet, because \u2018The Great Impersonator\u2019<\/a> didn\u2019t perform as well commercially as her label had hoped.<\/p>\n The singer-songwriter released her fifth studio effort last October, earning her a glowing five-star review from NME<\/em><\/a> and being named one of our best albums of 2024<\/a>. It peaked at Number 19 in the UK albums chart, and Number Two in the US Billboard<\/em> 200.<\/p>\n During a new interview with Apple Music 1<\/a>, Halsey reflected on the expectations of success from the industry, and being compared to major pop acts like Taylor Swift<\/a> and Ariana Grande<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cI can\u2019t make an album right now,\u201d she told host Zane Lowe. \u201cI\u2019m not allowed to. I can\u2019t make an album right now.\u201d<\/p>\n She went on to discuss \u201cthe reality\u201d of her current situation, after \u201c\u2018The Great Impersonator\u2019 didn\u2019t perform the way [her label, Columbia] thought it was going to\u201d.<\/p>\n Halsey added: \u201cAnd if I\u2019m being honest with you, the album sold a hundred thousand fucking copies first week. That\u2019s a pretty big first week, especially for an artist who hasn\u2019t had a hit in a long time. The tour<\/a> is the highest-selling tour of my entire career.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n The artist then claimed that her team \u201cwant \u2018Manic\u2019<\/a> numbers from me\u201d, referring to her 2020 third record \u2013 which shifted 239,000 units in its first week. \u201cEveryone wants \u2018Manic\u2019 numbers from me,\u201d she said. \u201cI can\u2019t do that every single time. It should be good enough that I do it once in a while, but it\u2019s not.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
