Fans eager for new music from Halsey might have to wait a little longer. The singer recently explained why she has not been releasing new songs, and her honesty shows just how complicated the music industry can be.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cI can\u2019t make an album right now,\u201d Halsey revealed in a recent interview<\/a>, as reported by PEOPLE<\/a><\/em>. \u201cI\u2019m not allowed to. It\u2019s the reality.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The Great Impersonator vs. Label Expectations<\/h3>\n

Halsey pointed to her 2024 album The Great Impersonator<\/em> as the reason. While the album hit No. 2 on the Billboard 200<\/a> after its release on October 25, 2024, it did not satisfy the record label.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cIf I\u2019m being honest with you, the album sold 100,000 f—— copies first week,\u201d Halsey said. \u201cThat\u2019s a pretty big first week, especially for an artist who hasn\u2019t had a hit in a long time.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Despite strong sales and a sold-out tour<\/a>, Halsey says her label still expected bigger numbers, like those from her earlier smash Manic<\/em>, which featured the chart-topping single \u201cWithout Me.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cMy Last Trick Tour is the highest-selling of my entire career. But they want Manic<\/em> numbers from me,” she explained.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Looking Back at Success<\/h3>\n

When comparing the albums, Halsey admitted the difference is striking.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cIt would be considered a success for most artists, 100,000 albums in the first week, in an era when we don\u2019t sell physical music. But it\u2019s a failure in the context of the kind of success I\u2019ve had previously. And that\u2019s the hardest part of having been a pop star once, because I\u2019m not one anymore, and I\u2019m being compared to people that I don\u2019t consider lateral to me.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Her earlier album Manic<\/em> went platinum six times, largely because of \u201cWithout Me.\u201d In contrast, The Great Impersonator<\/em> was praised by fans but did not match those record-breaking numbers.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Tours Keep the Momentum<\/h3>\n

Even without new music, Halsey is still filling arenas. Her 32-date My Last Trick Tour<\/em> sold out almost instantly, starting in Concord, California in May 2025 and finishing in Highland, California in July.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

She also has plans to celebrate her debut with the Back to Badlands Tour<\/a><\/em>, honoring the 10th anniversary of her first album.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Through all the pressure, Halsey is thankful for her supporters.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

“I love them, God bless them, because they\u2019re the only reason that I\u2019m even able to make anything at all, that I can sell that many copies of an experimental concept album about death,\u201d she said. \u201cThey support me.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

For now, Halsey fans may not get a brand new album, but they still have plenty to look forward to with live shows and anniversary celebrations.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
