The Hollywood community widely condemned<\/a> ABC pulling Jimmy Kimmel<\/strong>\u2019s late night show off the air due to the host\u2019s comments about the killing of controversial pundit Charlie Kirk.<\/p>\n

The controversy erupted due to comments that Kimmel made in his monologue on Monday, September 15, over conservatives\u2019 reactions to 22-year-old Tyler Robinson<\/strong> being arrested on September 12 in connection with Kirk\u2019s shooting death.<\/p>\n

Robinson is alleged to have shot Kirk during the conservative commentator\u2019s speech at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, on September 10. The shooting suspect was charged with a capital offense, aggravated murder, and felony discharge of a firearm, as well as lesser counts of obstruction of justice, witness tampering and commission of a violent offense in the presence of a child. Robinson has not yet entered a plea but will remain in custody at Utah County Jail without bail at least until a waiver hearing on Monday, September 29.<\/p>\n

While addressing Robinson\u2019s arrest, Kimmel told viewers on September 15: \u201cThe MAGA gang [is] desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it. In between the finger-pointing, there was grieving.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tTwo months after CBS canceled The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, the late night TV world took another hit when Jimmy Kimmel Live! was pulled off the air. \u201cJimmy Kimmel Live! will be pre-empted indefinitely,\u201d a spokesperson for the network confirmed to Us Weekly on Wednesday, September 17. The decision came after host Jimmy Kimmel [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

A spokesperson for the Disney-owned ABC confirmed to Us Weekly<\/em><\/a> on September 17 that \u201cJimmy Kimmel Live!<\/em> will be pre-empted indefinitely,\u201d in the aftermath of two of the nation\u2019s largest TV station operators, Nexstar Media and Sinclair Broadcast Group, vowing not to air the show on their local affiliates.<\/p>\n

More than 90,000 people signed a MoveOn.Org petition<\/a> calling for Kimmel\u2019s reinstatement in the first two days after his suspension. Many celebrities \u2014 including David Letterman<\/strong><\/a> and other late night hosts<\/a> \u2014 publicly complained that Kimmel\u2019s suspension was unfair, while others have directly called for boycotts of Disney until Jimmy Kimmel Live!<\/em> is allowed back on air.<\/p>\n

Damon Lindelof<\/h2>\n

The three-time Emmy Award-winning writer and producer\u2019s groundbreaking series Lost<\/em> aired on ABC and is now available to stream via Disney+ and Hulu, the latter of which is owned by Disney Streaming.<\/p>\n

Lindelof penned an impassioned defense of Kimmel via Instagram<\/a> on September 18, calling the late night host \u201ccaring and empathic and grateful.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou know he loves his country. You know he appreciates a good roast and he can take as good as he gives,\u201d the Leftovers<\/em> and Watchmen<\/em> writer added. \u201cYou know he supported his crew through multiple strikes and you know he is generous and philanthropic and most of all, you know that he is kind.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tJimmy Kimmel was the talk of late night television on Thursday, September 18, despite his own show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, being taken off the air by ABC earlier this week. ABC pulled the talk show from its schedules on Wednesday, September 17, after criticism over Kimmel\u2019s comments about the death of conservative political commentator Charlie [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The Lost<\/em> cocreator insisted that he\u2019d been \u201cshocked, saddened and infuriated\u201d by ABC\u2019s decision to bench Kimmel \u2014 and vowed not to work with Disney until the matter was resolved.<\/p>\n

\u201cI look forward to [the suspension] being lifted soon,\u201d he continued. \u201cIf it isn\u2019t, I can\u2019t in good conscience work for the company that imposed it. If you\u2019re about to fire up in my comments, just ask yourself if you know the difference between hate speech and a joke. I think you still do. And Jimmy? You\u2019ve ALWAYS known what you were doing. Love you and support you.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lindelof received support from The Leftovers<\/em> actress Amy Brenneman<\/strong>, comedian Bobcat Goldthwait<\/strong> and Watchmen<\/em> star Frances Fisher<\/strong>, among others.<\/p>\n

The cowriter of Christopher Nolan<\/strong>\u2018s Dark Knight<\/em> trilogy and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice<\/em> replied to Lindelof\u2019s Instagram post to confirm that he too would refuse to work with Disney until Jimmy Kimmel Live!<\/em> returned.<\/p>\n
