Richardson also produced the original <em>Spit<\/em> album, and the new EP marks his first collaboration with Kittie in the years since.<\/p>\n<p>Kittie put out the <em>Spit<\/em> album on January 11, 2000 via Ng and Artemis Records. It was a cult hit for the emerging quartet, reaching number 79 on the US <em>Billboard<\/em> 200 chart and topping the US Heatseekers Albums chart. The release made singer\/guitarist Morgan Lander one of the few female figureheads of the <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.loudersound.com\/tag\/nu-metal\" data-auto-tag-linker=\"true\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.loudersound.com\/tag\/nu-metal\">nu metal<\/a> era, even though the band distanced themselves from the genre with later albums, which pulled more influence from extreme metal.<\/p>\n<p>Drummer Mercedes Lander spoke about Kittie\u2019s influence on later female metal singers, including Poppy and Justine Jones of Employed To Serve, in a recent interview with <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.kerrang.com\/kittie-spit-nu-metal-morgan-lander-mercedes-lander-interview\" target=\"_blank\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.kerrang.com\/kittie-spit-nu-metal-morgan-lander-mercedes-lander-interview\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\"><em>Kerrang!<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen people ask questions about that kind of influence, I just feel old,\u201d she said. \u201cWhen they use words like \u2018legacy\u2019 in conjunction [with] our band, I feel like we\u2019ve maybe side-stepped the greatness that could have been. But we\u2019re trying to reclaim it now. Back then we were the lone women in a sea of nu metal \u2018dudes\u2019. The world is a bit more ready for us now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Last year, Kittie put out <em>Fire<\/em>, their first studio album since 2011 and their first since coming back from a five-year hiatus in 2022.
