Jay Leno<\/strong><\/a> is standing with Jimmy Kimmel<\/strong><\/a> despite their rocky past.<\/p>\n

While speaking to reporters<\/a> outside Chris Wallace<\/strong>\u2018s Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony on Thursday, September 18, Leno, 75, reacted to ABC pulling Jimmy Kimmel Live!<\/em><\/a> off the air earlier this week.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m on Jimmy Kimmel\u2019s side on that one,\u201d the former Tonight Show<\/em> host declared, adding that he could imagine a suspension like this happening during his time as a late night TV host. (Leno helmed The Tonight Show<\/em> from 1992 to 2009 and from 2010 to 2014.)<\/p>\n

\u201cThese kinds of things happen all the time,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThe Tonight Show\u2019s Jimmy Fallon took the stage one day after Jimmy Kimmel\u2019s late night talk show was suspended indefinitely. Fallon, 50, shared a statement about Kimmel, 57, during the Thursday, September 18, episode of his show. \u201cWell guys, the big story is that Jimmy Kimmel was suspended by ABC after pressure from the FCC, [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Leno told reporters on Thursday that Kimmel\u2019s suspension speaks to his ability to tell the truth: \u201cYou don\u2019t get canceled saying popular things. Usually it\u2019s the truth that winds up getting [you] canceled, so we\u2019ll see what happens.\u201d<\/p>\n

Leno also said that anyone who disagrees with comedians on late night TV doesn\u2019t need to watch them.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a comedian talking. If you don\u2019t like it, don\u2019t watch it,\u201d he continued. \u201cThat\u2019s the market. Let the people decide. If people like a show, it stays on the air. I mean, that\u2019s as simple as that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Leno added, \u201cI enjoy Jimmy. I like all the guys. I think they\u2019re really talented. I like jokes. That\u2019s why I watch them. I think Jimmy will land on his feet. He\u2019s a talented guy. He\u2019s funny. And let\u2019s see what happens. Maybe he might be on [TV again] in just a couple of weeks again. So, we\u2019ll see.\u201d<\/p>\n

Leno concluded by saying that he\u2019s \u201cfor free speech.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cPatrick Henry<\/strong> said it best: \u2018Give me liberty or give me death.\u2019 That was the first go-around with this argument. It\u2019s gone on for 200 years, and in a free society, it\u2019ll go on for another 200,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019ll be alright. Don\u2019t worry about it.\u201d<\/p>\n

A spokesperson for ABC confirmed the suspension of Kimmel\u2019s talk show<\/a> on Wednesday, September 17, telling Us Weekly<\/em> in a statement, \u201cJimmy Kimmel Live!<\/em> will be pre-empted indefinitely.\u201d<\/p>\n

The move came after Kimmel, 57, received backlash for his monologue during the Monday, September 15, episode, in which he spoke about Tyler Robinson<\/strong>, who was accused of fatally shooting conservative commentator Charlie Kirk<\/strong><\/a> during an event at Utah Valley University on September 10.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe MAGA Gang [is] desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it,\u201d Kimmel said. \u201cIn between the finger-pointing, there was grieving.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kimmel then poked fun at President Donald Trump<\/strong>\u2019s response to a reporter who asked how he was coping with Kirk\u2019s death. (Trump, 79, said, \u201cI think very good,\u201d and then transitioned to discussing the White House ballroom\u2019s remodel.)<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s at the fourth stage of grief: construction,\u201d Kimmel joked. \u201cThis is not how an adult grieves the murder of someone he called a friend. This is how a 4-year-old mourns a goldfish, OK?\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tConan O\u2019Brien threw his support behind Jimmy Kimmel as drama surrounding the latter\u2019s late night show continues to unfold. \u201cThe suspension of @jimmykimmel and the promise to silence other Late Night hosts for criticizing the administration should disturb everyone on the Right, Left, and Center,\u201d O\u2019Brien, who\u2019s hosted multiple late night shows throughout his career, [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Nexstar Media, which owns multiple TV stations, told Variety<\/em> in a statement that it \u201cstrongly objects to recent comments made by Mr. Kimmel concerning the killing of Charlie Kirk\u201d and would be replacing Kimmel\u2019s talk show with alternative programming \u201cfor the foreseeable future.\u201d<\/p>\n

Leno\u2019s defense of Kimmel comes more than a decade after the pair experienced a tense moment<\/a> on The Tonight Show<\/em>. At the time, Kimmel mocked Leno for returning to the talk show after he briefly handed it over to Conan O\u2019Brien<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
