SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4<\/a><\/strong>) \u2014 Let\u2019s do the time warp again! Seeing the cult classic Rocky Horror Picture show each year is a tradition for many, and if you\u2019re looking to catch a showing this October, you\u2019re in luck. Here\u2019s a list of where you can see live and shadowcast performances across Utah.<\/p>\n This year is the 50th anniversary of the Rocky Horror Picture Show after its premiere in 1975. The movie was a notorious flop when it released, but it garnered a fan base who kept it alive through midnight showings, audience participation, and shadowcasts.<\/p>\n The Rocky Horror Picture Show is an R rated movie that features adult content and sexuality, so viewer discretion is advised. Many of these performances are 18+ only or require minors to be accompanied by an adult, so make sure you read the websites carefully before purchasing tickets.<\/p>\n If your city is not listed here, Cinemark has showtimes of the Rocky Horror Picture Show<\/a><\/strong> in October for the 50th anniversary of the movie. They won\u2019t have a shadowcast, but you should be able to participate in the call outs and dress up. Cinemark is requesting no throwable props and says to avoid face paint or costume face masks.<\/p>\n If we\u2019re missing a local Rocky Horror event, send us a tip<\/a><\/strong> and let us know so we can add it to our list.<\/p>\n A shadowcast is a live cast of actors who perform in front of the screen in costumes while the movie plays, acting out what is happening on screen and lip syncing. The term emerged to describe the type of performance that developed around the Rocky Horror Picture Show in the late 1980s.<\/p>\n The most common shadowcast performances are still for the Rocky Horror Picture Show, but they\u2019ve cropped up around other cult classics too, like Shock Treatment (the follow up to the Rocky Horror Picture Show), Repo! The Genetic Opera, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, and Clue.<\/p>\n Out of the Shadows Theater Group<\/a><\/strong> is a Salt Lake City based theater company that entirely does shadowcast performances.<\/p>\n The Salt Lake City performances are done by the Latter Day Transvestites<\/a><\/strong>, a group that is part of the Out of the Shadows Theater Group.<\/p>\n There are two performances at the Alliance Theater in Salt Lake City in conjunction with FanX on September 26 and 27. Not only is this the 50th anniversary of the film, it\u2019s also the 30th anniversary of the Latter Day Transvestites! You can buy tickets for these performances on the Utah Arts Alliance website here<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n You can also catch Rocky Horror at the Salt Lake Film Society (SLFS)<\/a><\/strong> Broadway Centre Cinemas with live shadowcast performers and audience props on October 30, October 31, and November 1 this year. Each ticket includes an audience prop bag with everything you will need to enjoy the show\u2013newspaper, cards, gloves, etc.<\/p>\n Tickets are now available at SLFSTix.org<\/a><\/strong>. Rice is not allowed.<\/p>\n This year, Park City\u2019s Egyptian Theatre is doing a production of the Rocky Horror Show, the stage musical that was later adapted into the Rocky Horror Picture Show. You won\u2019t be watching the Tim Curry classic here; instead, you will be seeing a full musical production with local actors singing and dancing.<\/p>\n Just because it\u2019s a stage musical doesn\u2019t mean there won\u2019t be audience participation! Every ticket includes a prop bag with everything you\u2019ll need. Audience members cannot bring their own props, and rice and water are specifically mentioned as being not allowed.<\/p>\n The show runs from October 29 to November 2, with two performances on Saturday, November 1. You can buy tickets online on the Egyptian Theatre website here<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n Peery\u2019s Egyptian Theater<\/a><\/strong> in Ogden has two shadowcast performances of the Rocky Horror Picture Show this year, on October 24 and 25. You are encouraged to dress up for the costume contest!<\/p>\n There is an 18+ pre-show party that begins at 5:30 p.m., for an additional cost, followed by their annual costume contest at 6:50 p.m. Your ticket includes a prop bag, but you cannot bring your own rice. You can buy tickets on the Peery\u2019s Egyptian Theater website here<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n You can also catch the stage musical The Rocky Horror Show at the Ziegfield Theater in Ogden. It\u2019s running from October 10 to October 25, with an ASL interpreted show on October 18. Student night is October 11.<\/p>\n You can purchase tickets on the Ziegfield Theater website here<\/a><\/strong>. The website does not make it clear if this is a performance where audience participation is encouraged, so be aware of that.<\/p>\n The Utah Theatre<\/a><\/strong> in Logan has three performances of the Rocky Horror Picture show scheduled this year on October 25, 30, and 31. The October 30 and 31 performances are true midnight showings.<\/p>\n Audience participation is encouraged, and each ticket includes a prop bag. No outside props are allowed. You can buy tickets online to reserve your spot here<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n The St. George Theater<\/a><\/strong> is hosting a special 50th anniversary screening of the Rocky Horror Picture show on Saturday, October 25. This showing also has a pre-show concert by local zombie punk cabaret band The Flesh Junkies.<\/p>\n There is also a costume contest before the show, so be sure to dress up! Prop bags are included with admission while supplies last, so get there early if you want props. You can buy tickets on the St. George Theater website here<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n You\u2019re going to have to wait a bit longer to see the Rocky Horror Show in Cedar City. While there weren\u2019t any performances in October that we could find, Southern Utah University\u2019s Department of Theatre, Dance, and Arts Administration<\/a><\/strong> is mounting a production of the stage version the Rocky Horror Show in April. A local cast will perform all your favorite songs, plus a few that were cut from the movie.<\/p>\n The show has performances on April 10, 11, 13, 17, and 18. Current SUU students can get one free ticket, and SUU faculty and staff can get two free tickets with a valid SUU photo ID.
