\u201cYou can\u2019t go around firing somebody because you\u2019re fearful or trying to suck up to an authoritarian criminal administration in the Oval Office. That\u2019s just not how this works,\u201d Letterman said at The Atlantic Festival.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The comedian said he \u201cmercilessly\u201d attacked multiple presidents in his 30-plus years on late night TV and heard bupkis from regulatory bodies \u2015 suggesting that\u2019s the way it should be for comedians roasting public figures.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cThe point is, beating up on these people, rightly or wrongly, accurately or perhaps inaccurately in the name of comedy, not once were we squeezed by anyone from any governmental agency, let alone the dreaded FCC,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The former \u201cLate Show\u201d host called out FCC boss Carr for his menacing tone in recent comments<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cThis guy [at] the FCC said, \u2018We can do things the easy way. We can do things the hard way.\u2019 Who is hiring these goons? Mario Puzo?\u201d Letterman cracked, referring to \u201cThe Godfather\u201d author.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
