Glenn Close<\/a> bares it all in her new movie.<\/p>\nIn a new interview with AARP’s Movies for Grownups<\/a>, the 78-year-old actress got candid about a nude scene in The Summer Book (in theaters Friday). Asked if she was \u201cnervous to go au naturel on camera,\u201d as the publication put it, Close said she embraced it.<\/p>\n\u201cIt was my idea,\u201d said the Oscar nominee. \u201cI thought that\u2019s something [my character] would do when no one else is around. In Finland, they\u2019re much more used to nakedness than we are.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Summer Book, based on the novel of the same name by Tove Jansson, is the story of a grieving grandmother and granddaughter set on a small island in the Gulf of Finland. Close leads the film as a character known only as Grandmother to Emily Matthews’ young Sophia.<\/p>\n

One scene involves Grandmother taking a fully nude walk in the forest. \u201cI didn’t want to put my clothes back on,\u201d Close told AARP with a smile. \u201cIt felt so good.\u201d<\/p>\n
The \u201cvery unsentimental\u201d movie, as Close called it, marks the first time she\u2019s played a grandmother since becoming one<\/a> herself; the Back in Action<\/a> star\u2019s daughter Annie Starke<\/a> announced<\/a> the birth of her first child, son Rory, with her husband Marc Albu in February.<\/p>\n\u201cI’m very aware of my role as grandmother,\u201d said Close. \u201cI’m very proud of it, and I love spending time with him.\u201d<\/p>\n
Close, Stark and their growing family live on a ranch in Montana<\/a>. \u201cOne of the reasons we live here is because we can raise [Annie\u2019s son] surrounded by nature,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\u201cHe\u2019ll know that property like the back of his hand, and he’ll know the changing of the seasons. He’ll know how things grow. He’ll get respect for wildlife, he’ll build his secret places and it will sustain him through life, as my childhood did, my early childhood running around the Connecticut countryside.\u201d That\u2019s why The Summer Book \u2014 a movie \u201cabout the day-to-day, how life goes on,\u201d Close said \u2014\u00a0resonated with her.<\/p>\n
