UT Austin showcases Lorne Michaels Collection<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

AUSTIN (KXAN) \u2014 You won\u2019t have to plan a trip to New York to get a taste of Saturday Night Live anymore if you live in Texas.<\/p>\n

The Lorne Michaels Collection opens to the public at the Harry Ransom Center on the University of Texas campus, showcasing sketches, behind-the-scenes photography and rare materials from SNL\u2019s 50-year history on Saturday.<\/p>\n

While themed around SNL the exhibit encompasses Michaels\u2019 whole career.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is very much the Lorne Michaels archive not the Saturday Night Live Archive,\u201d said Steve Wilson who curated the exhibition. \u201cHe has had a remarkable career and an incredible impact on our culture.\u201d<\/p>\n

Michaels created SNL in 1975 and currently serves as the show\u2019s executive producer.<\/p>\n

\u2018Saturday Night Live\u2019 celebrates 50 years with comedy, music and show\u2019s many, many famous friends <\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cIt is really interesting to see how someone like Lorne Michaels does things,\u201d said Wilson. \u201cHow do they write a script, how do they comment on a script, how do they deal with production issues.\u201d<\/p>\n

Inside the exhibit you will find a number of documents, photos, costumes and much more.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a great resource for historians, social studies, as well as RTF down the street,\u201d said Wilson.<\/p>\n

The exhibit opens Sept. 20 and will be open until March 2026.<\/p>\n
