Conan O\u2019Brien<\/a> is condemning ABC\u2019s suspension of \u201cJimmy Kimmel Live!<\/a>\u201d after pressure from the Trump-aligned Federal Communications Commission chair on local broadcasters that aired the program.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Kimmel had criticized the right-wing response<\/a> to last week\u2019s fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, leading to what an ABC spokesperson told celebrity.land is an \u201cindefinite\u201d leave \u2014 a move celebrated by President Donald Trump<\/a>. Nexstar Media Group and Sinclair Broadcast Group, the largest owners of local TV stations in the U.S., had said they would pull the show<\/a> after conservative uproar and a threat of action by FCC chair Brendan Carr.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

O\u2019Brien, a former late night host himself, reacted Friday on X, formerly Twitter.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cThe suspension of @jimmykimmel and the promise to silence other Late Night hosts for criticizing the administration should disturb everyone on the Right, Left, and Center,\u201d O\u2019Brien wrote Friday<\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019s wrong and anyone with a conscience knows it\u2019s wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Kimmel was suspended for comments Monday about Kirk\u2019s suspected killer, Tyler Robinson<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cWe hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points,\u201d Kimmel said during his monologue<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Carr<\/a> argued in an interview Thursday on CNBC<\/a> that his obligation is to ensure \u201cbroadcasters are serving the public interest,\u201d and said that companies have \u201cevery right\u201d to suspend programs they deem a disservice.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
