Stephen Colbert<\/a> warned ABC and related corporate entities in his Thursday night Late Show<\/em><\/a> monologue that they’re being \u201cwoefully naive\u201d if they think the Jimmy Kimmel<\/a> suspension will \u201csatisfy the regime.\u201d<\/p>\n On Thursday\u2019s show, aired Sept. 18, Colbert first welcomed the audience to the Ed Sullivan Theater with his usual introduction before diving right into the topic at hand. Namely, Colbert, like anyone with a brain, is concerned about what could be ahead if corporate fuckery of this level continues to lead to what he and others have criticized as \u201cblatant censorship,\u201d a more-than-apt assessment.<\/p>\n \u201cTonight we are all Jimmy Kimmel,\u201d Colbert said in his monologue. \u201cI still have a show though, right? Okay, good. Yesterday, after threats from Trump\u2019s FCC chair, ABC yanked Kimmel off the air indefinitely. That is blatant censorship, and it always starts small. You know, remember, like, in week one, \u2018Gulf of America.\u2019 Call it \u2018Gulf of America.\u2019 Sure, seems harmless. But with an autocrat, you cannot give an inch. And if ABC thinks this is gonna satisfy the regime, they are woefully naive.\u201d<\/p>\n Specifically addressing Kimmel\u2019s more-than-innocuous remarks, Colbert then reminded those who may have forgotten what purpose, exactly, a late-night monologue is intended to serve. In short, the format is meant to address whatever viewers are talking about at any given moment. In Kimmel\u2019s case, that meant the shooting death of Charlie Kirk, who has posthumously been made the subject of a quasi-deification campaign by MAGAites. Obsess.<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cWe hit some new lows over the weekend, with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it,\u201d Kimmel said in his most-recent monologue, with FCC chair Brendan Carr preposterously calling these remarks the \u201csickest conduct possible\u201d in a podcast interview.<\/p>\n \u201cIs that the clip, really?\u201d Colbert said after playing Kimmel\u2019s remarks for the Late Show<\/em> audience. \u201cBecause that\u2019s just Jimmy Kimmel. Given the FCC\u2019s response, I was expecting something more provocative. That\u2019s like hearing Playboy<\/em> has a racy new centerfold and finding out it\u2019s just Jimmy Kimmel.\u201d<\/p>\n From there, Colbert detailed the high-level corporate fuckery that led to all of this, including an \u201cimplied threat\u201d from Carr. As Colbert pointed out, Carr himself argued in an X update back in 2020 that \u201cshutting down\u201d political speech of this type represents \u201ca serious threat\u201d to everyone\u2019s freedoms.<\/p>\n \u201cOh man, do not tell Brendan Carr that Brendan Carr said that or he\u2019s gonna get Brendan Carr to cancel Brendan Carr,\u201d Colbert quipped, adding that Carr\u2019s statements \u201csure seem like marching orders.\u201d<\/p>\n Later, Colbert referenced his own cancellation, as well as highlighted the mergers-fueled involvement of Disney and Nexstar in this current bullshittery.<\/p>\n \u201cThis was part of a plan,\u201d Colbert added. \u201cHow do I know that?
