A behind-the-scenes clip from Megalopolis, <\/em>published by The Film Stage<\/em><\/a> on Thursday, September 18, reveals a fractured set.<\/p>\n It shows actor Shia LaBeouf bickering with director Francis Ford Coppola as they try to work out how to film a particular scene \u2014 and neither of them seems particularly happy with the process.<\/p>\n \u201cWhat are we inventing a whole step for?\u201d asks Coppola. \u201cWhere did that come from? Who is the director who came in here and started to stage the scene?\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cYou\u2019re obviously the director,\u201d LaBeouf replies.<\/p>\n COMPLEX SHOP:<\/b> Shop the brands you love, anytime and anywhere. Obsess.<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cBut I\u2019m not having a chance to,\u201d says Coppola.<\/p>\n Meanwhile Jon Voight chimes in occasionally, at one point telling the camera prophetically to “say a prayer.”<\/p>\n The clip is taken from Megadoc<\/em>, Oscar-nominated director Mike Figgis\u2019 making of Megalopolis<\/em>. Figgis\u2019 relationship with Coppola dates back to 1996, which is how he was granted permission to film during the entire shoot.<\/p>\n What followed was a chronicle of the chaotic production of Megalopolis<\/em>. The Godfather <\/em>director\u2019s self-financed passion project failed to recoup its costs, grossing only about $14.3 million worldwide against a budget of $120-136 million after its release in September 2024.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve become obsessively fascinated by process,\u201d Figgis tells The San Francisco Chronicle<\/em><\/a>. \u201cSometimes I see a really bad film, and I find it fascinating. I just go, ‘Wow, wow. What a choice,’ you know? So watching Francis at work, I\u2019m kind of, ‘Wow!’ I read the script and I thought, ‘How\u2019s he gonna shoot this?'”<\/p>\n Megadoc<\/em> opens in theaters on Friday, September 19. There’s one detail it won’t include, however.<\/p>\n Megalopolis<\/em> was embroiled in controversy when accusations emerged Coppola made inappropriate advances with extras while filming. Megadoc <\/em>steers clear of this for one important reason. \u201cThe reason it\u2019s not in Megadoc<\/em> is because I didn\u2019t have any footage to support that,\u201d said Figgis. \u201cYou know, I was there watching like a hawk all the time. Francis, an old-school filmmaker, has his, let\u2019s say, his bipolar larger-than-life personality.
