Growing up as the son of music legend Waylon Jennings<\/strong> means that over the years, Shooter Jennings<\/strong> spent a lot of time around other legends, including his godfather, Johnny Cash<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n But despite the love that they had for each other, Shooter was a bit nervous about going to Johnny’s house, and he explained why during an appearance on the Sept. 17 Drifting Cowboy podcast. He was convinced that there was something spooky going on there, thanks to something that Johnny’s son, John Carter Cash<\/strong>, once told him.<\/p>\n “[John] used to like to scare me a lot when I was little, because I was a little younger,” Shooter explained on the podcast. “The Cashs’ house was pretty big \u2014\u00a0I mean, I was little, so it wasn’t as big as my memory.”<\/p>\n His house had different statues inside, and one of them was a bench with the statue of a person sitting on it.<\/p>\n “John Carter told me that they were dead people,” he said. “That they had poured wax over or whatever and melted … I was so scared to go to Johnny Cash’s house.”<\/p>\n To be fair, that would scare almost any kid! Unfortunately, Shooter didn’t mention how he finally found out the truth, but it’s no wonder he was hesitant about Johnny’s house.<\/p>\n Scary statues notwithstanding, Shooter was very close with Johnny growing up. Back in 2012, he told Channel Guide that he was the one who chose Johnny to be his godfather<\/a> after his dad Waylon had a falling out with the man who was originally in the role.<\/p>\n At the time, he also shared his memories of growing up with Johnny.<\/p>\n “When I was 4 or 5 \u2014 I\u2019m 33 now \u2014 is when The Highwaymen formed, so from a young age Cash\u2019s family, Willie Nelson<\/strong>\u2019s family, Kris [Kristofferson’s]<\/strong> family and our family were out on the road traveling together and doing these overseas tours, so our families bonded,” he said.<\/p>\n Shooter added, “Johnny threw a roller-skating party for me and my friends at the Hendersonville skating rink. There\u2019s a picture of my dad and him lacing up their roller skates.
