Donald Trump had a strong response to late-night show legend David Letterman labeling the president an \u201cauthoritarian,\u201d in response to Jimmy Kimmel<\/a>\u2019s ABC suspension.<\/p>\n In a Truth Social post on Friday, Trump kept his rebuttal to Letterman\u2019s comments short but not sweet.<\/p>\n \u201cWhatever happened to the very highly overrated David Letterman, whose ratings were never very good, either,\u201d Trump wrote. \u201cHe looks like hell, but at least he knew when to quit. LOSER!!!\u201d<\/p>\n The classic Trump response comes after Letterman told<\/a> journalist Jeffrey Goldberg during The Atlantic Festival on Thursday that the rampant censorship is \u201cmisery.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cWe see where this is all going, correct? It\u2019s managed media. And it\u2019s no good. It\u2019s silly,\u201d Letterman said. \u201cIt\u2019s ridiculous. And you can\u2019t go around firing somebody because you\u2019re fearful or trying to suck up to an authoritarian criminal administration in the Oval Office. That\u2019s just not how this works.\u201d<\/p>\n Kimmel was suspended Wednesday<\/a> by ABC after Federal Communications Commission chair Brendan Carr threatened the network a few hours earlier on while speaking with conservative podcaster Benny Johnson. Kimmel was targeted by the Trump administration for comments the host made on Monday night regarding the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.<\/p>\n The exact words that brought down the might of Trump\u2019s censorship machine were, \u201cWe hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThis is a very, very serious issue right now for Disney,\u201d Carr said in the interview. \u201cWe can do this the easy way or the hard way.\u201d<\/p>\n In his conversation with Goldberg, Letterman said mocked Carr\u2019s turn of phrase when threatening Disney. \u201cWho is hiring these goons? Mario Puzo?\u201d<\/p>\n Despite\u2019s Trump\u2019s taunts of being \u201chighly overrated\u201d Letterman is held in high regard by his peers. After hosting nearly 2,000 episodes of Late Night with David Letterman <\/i>through the 1980s and 1990s, he is considered the inspiration for many including Kimmel, who has called<\/a> the comedian the \u201cmain reason he got into television.\u201d<\/p>\n Letterman is also far from the first late night show host Trump has targeted directly by name. The president\u2019s Truth Social account is filled with posts calling for the firing or removal of Seth Meyers and Jimmy Fallon. After CBS announced that it was canceling The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, <\/i>Trump posted that Jimmy Kimmel was \u201cNEXT.\u201d<\/p>\n
