Years later, when the long-awaited sequel, <em>Tron: Legacy,<\/em> finally came out, I was as excited as anybody. While I\u2019m still <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/entertainment\/movies\/articles\/bummed-tron-ares-wasnt-direct-190601451.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:annoyed it\u2019s not a direct sequel to Tron: Legacy,;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\">annoyed it\u2019s not a direct sequel to <em>Tron: Legacy<\/em>,<\/a> I\u2019ll take what I can get, and at the end of the day, I\u2019m just glad we\u2019re getting a sequel. Both have received shiny new 4K transfers, overseen by <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cinemablend.com\/news\/2495622\/what-trons-director-wishes-hed-done-differently\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:original Tron director Steven Lisberger.;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">original <em>Tron<\/em> director Steven Lisberger.<\/a> As a fan, I was very excited to get a hold of these, and so I then did what any self-respecting <em>Tron<\/em> would do. Flynn, alongside programs Tron and Yori, works to help Flynn escape, which he eventually does.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">At the beginning of <em>Tron: Legacy, <\/em>we see Sam Flynn\u2019s childhood bedroom, which includes, among other things, a <em>Tron<\/em> poster for the then-new <em>Tron <\/em>video game, which is identical to the real <em>Tron<\/em> movie poster. We also see action figures of characters fighting each other using discs as weapons and lightcycle toys. During the early montage sequence in <em>Legacy<\/em> that explains Kevin Flynn\u2019s disappearance, it\u2019s mentioned that Flynn created the video games <em>Space Paranoids<\/em>, a game specifically mentioned that Flynn made before the events of the first movie, and a game called <em>Tron<\/em>, which must have come after.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Basically, Kevin Flynn took his experiences from the first movie and turned them into a video game called <em>Tron<\/em>. It\u2019s logical to assume that <em>Tron<\/em> became a massive franchise, leading to toy lines and maybe even an eventual film adaptation, among other things. Maybe <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/entertainment\/jared-leto-finally-went-disney-230700362.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:Tron eventually became a theme park ride;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\">Tron eventually became a theme park ride<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">So the world of the <em>Tron<\/em> movies includes both a fictional franchise about people that live inside the computer, and a real world inside the computer. The existence of Ares and other digital life forms may be something that is only revealed to a small number officially, but it\u2019s clear that their existence will not be hidden from the public for long. The trailers show lightcycles flying down city streets and cutting through police cars. By the end of <em>Tron: Ares<\/em>, it seems all but certain that the world will know the truth.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">So who\u2019s going to be the first person to mention that those people and the cool bikes they ride look an awful lot like something out of a video game? And not just <em>any<\/em> video game. They look like something from <em>Tron<\/em>, a game that we\u2019re told in <em>Legacy<\/em> is one of the best-selling video games of all time. This is the sort of thing people will notice.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">I have to wonder if this connection will be addressed. Will a character say something about the lightcyckes or the people? However, it\u2019s also possible that it could lead to something more, and I think it should.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Kevin Flynn was \u201cmissing\u201d following his disappearance in <em>Tron: Legacy,<\/em> and obviously, he never resurfaced. The disappearance of a major tech CEO is likely to be the sort of story that never really dies. The events of <em>Tron: Ares<\/em> may give people the opportunity to put the pieces together and figure out just where it is that Flynn disappeared to.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">And then what? Imagine if we learned that the characters from Star Wars or DC Comics or, well, <em>Tron<\/em>, were real, actually. It would change the way we see&#8230; everything.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><em>Tron: Legacy<\/em> answered the question of whether people from the digital frontier could enter the \u2018real\u201d world, and the events of <em>Tron: Ares <\/em>could provide that same answer to the rest of the world. It only makes sense that if that can happen, people from our world can travel to the digital frontier.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">This potentially opens up the door to a host of new <em>Tron<\/em> sequels, maybe a Disney+ series, whatever they want to do with it.
