After John\u2019s nagging heartburn at the end of The Summer I Turned Pretty<\/a><\/em> Season 3 had fans worried, author-turned-TV-creator Jenny Han<\/a> confirmed the character wasn\u2019t having a heart attack. \u201cNo, not at all!\u201d she told Entertainment Weekly<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Instead, John complained about his heartburn and asked Laurel (Jackie Chung<\/a>) to find the Pepcid for him because the writers were depicting \u201ca couple who had known each other a very long time who were giving it another try and kind of falling back into their old dynamics of low-key annoyance,\u201d Han said.<\/p>\n

Han also said The Summer I Turned Pretty<\/em>\u2019s use of Pepcid, a brand of acid reducers, wasn\u2019t product placement, nor was the show\u2019s use of Apple AirTags.<\/p>\n

\u201cA lot of people think that everything is product placement on the show, and I\u2019ll just say that I really like living in a real world, a real universe,\u201d Han said. \u201cAnd I would never say, \u2018Can you please pass me the heartburn medication?\u2019 You would just say, like, \u2018Where\u2019s the Pepcid?\u2019 \u2026 To use a generic, random brand, it doesn\u2019t feel like I\u2019m living in the real world.\u201d<\/p>\n
