A 77-year-old man has died after a five-alarm fire broke out in Montreal’s\u00a0Plateau-Mont-Royal borough at around 4:50 a.m. Sunday.<\/p>\n
The fire ravaged a three-storey residential and commercial building located at the intersection of Mont-Royal Avenue East and Saint-Andr\u00e9 Street.<\/p>\n
It started on the third floor and spread to the roof.<\/p>\n
A man was taken to hospital and was in critical condition Sunday morning. Montreal police confirmed his death in the afternoon.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Around 150 firefighters were trying to control the flames on Sunday. Montreal police and paramedics were also at the scene.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Power was cut off in the area as a safety precaution.\u00a0By 8:30 a.m., the fire had been extinguished.<\/p>\n
Montreal police are now investigating the cause of the fire, which was still unknown Sunday afternoon.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
