Howard Stern<\/strong> has broken his silence following ABC’s decision to suspend Jimmy Kimmel Live following comments that host Jimmy Kimmel<\/strong> made in the aftermath of Charlie Kirk’s death.<\/p>\n “As you know, ABC threw Jimmy [Kimmel] off the air. I don’t know what their plan is, but it looks like they might be firing him,” Stern said on the Monday, Sept. 22 episode of SiriusXM\u2019s The Howard Stern Show<\/a>.<\/p>\n The network has not shared whether or not Kimmel will be “fired,” though there is a change the show could return to its late night slot. Sinclair, the broadcasting company with the nation’s largest ABC affiliate group, has requested that Kimmel issue an apology for his comments and that he donate to Kirk’s family and Kirk’s nonprofit, Turning Point USA, per People.<\/a><\/p>\n “I have spoken to Jimmy. I didn’t ask him these questions, I just asked him how he was doing personally. I just know when the government begins to interfere, when the government says, I’m not pleased with you, so we’re gonna orchestrate a way to silence you,” he continued.<\/p>\n “It’s the wrong direction for our country. And I should know I’ve been involved in something like this and now ABC is put in the same position and it’s unfortunate that ABC even has to be in this position. They shouldn’t have to be in this position. I feel for them too, in this. But that someone’s gotta step up and be f****** saying, ‘Hey, enough, we’re not gonna bow.’ Now it might sound stupid, but the thing I did this morning, I’m canceling my Disney+. I’m trying to say with the pocketbook that I do not support what they’re doing with Jimmy,” he added.<\/p>\n On the Monday, Sept. 15 episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live, Kimmel addressed Kirk\u2019s murder during his opening monologue, and suggested that suspected killer Tyler Robinson, 22, had a right wing agenda \u2014 though investigators have found the exact opposite.<\/p>\n \u201cWe hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it,\u201d Kimmel said on the episode, according to USA Today<\/a>.<\/p>\n Kirk was shot in broad daylight while speaking on the campus of Utah Valley University (UVU) in Orem, Utah, on Sept. 10. Prosecutors have charged Robinson with aggravated murder, obstruction of justice and witness tampering, and more, per celebrity.land<\/a>.<\/p>\n In an effort to debunk some of the rumors about Robinson’s political affiliations, WRAL News reported<\/a> that Robinson was not a registered voter and he did not donate to Donald Trump.<\/p>\n As for Stern’s comments about Kimmel, they were met with mixed reactions from fans.<\/p>\n “Why would Jimmy even want to go back?” one person said<\/a>.<\/p>\n “Great job Howard! Thank you for speaking up. Your platform is very widespread. More people in your position need to speak up. Our country is definitely heading in the wrong direction,” someone else wrote<\/a>.<\/p>\n “Educate yourself!! The government didn\u2019t have anything to do with this. Jimmy being a negative rude person did,” a third Instagram user weighed in<\/a>.<\/p>\n “Howard Stern finally reached the out of touch point, of all people he knows how to conduct yourself on PUBLIC airwaves,” a fourth comment read<\/a>.<\/p>\n Stern himself has been subject to plenty of online rumors that his own show was going to be canceled \u2014 though not for any reasons having to do with Kirk.
