The hybrid event runs in person from October 9 to 19 at SVA Theatre, The LGBT Community Center, BAM, and Nitehawk Prospect Park, with a virtual program available across the United States from October 9 to 21.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">This year\u2019s lineup features 130 films representing 29 countries. The program includes new narrative and documentary features, episodic work, legacy screenings, and more than ten shorts blocks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cCelebrating queer stories is an act of rebellion, one that challenges erasure and insists on visibility,\u201d said Executive Director David Hatkoff. \u201cThis festival is a space for resistance, celebration, and community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cThis year\u2019s wide ranging lineup centers triumphant LGBTQ+ stories and embraces films that defy easy categorization,\u201d said Director of Programming Nick McCarthy. \u201cWe are excited to engage artists and audiences in conversation around the best in queer cinema.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><strong>Spotlight Screenings:<\/strong><strong><br \/><\/strong>Opening Night: Blue Moon, directed by Richard Linklater, starring Ethan Hawke, Margaret Qualley, Bobby Cannavale, and Andrew Scott.<br \/>Closing Night: Christy, directed by David Mich\u00f4d, starring Sydney Sweeney, Ben Foster, Merritt Wever, Katy O&#8217;Brian, and Ethan Embry.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><strong>Centerpieces:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul class=\"mb-4\">\n<li class=\"ml-4 list-disc\">\n<div class=\"\">\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Documentary: Come See Me in the Good Light, directed by Ryan White, about poet Andrea Gibson.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"ml-4 list-disc\">\n<div class=\"\">\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">U.S.: FUCKTOYS, written and directed by Annapurna Sriram.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"ml-4 list-disc\">\n<div class=\"\">\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">International: Night Stage, directed by Filipe Matzembacher and Marcio Reolon.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"ml-4 list-disc\">\n<div class=\"\">\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">New York: A Deeper Love: The Story of Miss Peppermint, directed by Oriel Pe\u2019er.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><strong>Additional Highlights<\/strong><strong><br \/><\/strong>New York City premiere of Kristen Stewart\u2019s directorial debut The Chronology of Water.<br \/>North American premieres of Dustin Lance Black\u2019s documentary Rock Out and Elliot Tuttle\u2019s Blue Film.<br \/>World premieres include Drew Denny\u2019s Second Nature, narrated by Elliot Page, Stephen Winter\u2019s Jason and Shirley Revisited, and Alan Brown\u2019s Other People\u2019s Bodies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">On the episodic side, NewFest hosts a screening and conversation for Netflix\u2019s Boots with star Miles Heizer, showrunners, and creative team.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Legacy and specialty events include the 40th anniversary of My Beautiful Laundrette at the fifth annual Film Feast, a 75th anniversary \u201cBest Actress Trifecta\u201d with Born Yesterday, Sunset Boulevard, and All About Eve, Donna Deitch\u2019s Desert Hearts, and a 30th anniversary screening of The Celluloid Closet.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><strong>By the Numbers<\/strong><strong><br \/><\/strong>This year, 62 percent of titles are directed by women, nonbinary, trans, and Two Spirit filmmakers.
