A-list celebrities are showing their support for Jimmy Kimmel<\/strong><\/a> in an open letter after his show suspension.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe the people must never accept government threats to our freedom of speech. Efforts by leaders to pressure artists, journalists and companies with retaliation for their speech strike at the heart of what it means to live in a free country,\u201d the letter began, shared via the ACLU website<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The message continued, \u201cLast week, Jimmy Kimmel was taken off the air after the government threatened a private company with retaliation, marking a dark moment for freedom of speech in our nation. In an attempt to silence its critics, our government has resorted to threatening the livelihoods of journalists, talk show hosts, artists, creatives and entertainers across the board. This runs counter to the values our nation was built upon, and our Constitution guarantees.\u201d<\/p>\n

The letter noted that \u201cthis moment is bigger than us and our industry,\u201d with \u201cteachers, government employees, law firms, researchers, universities, students and so many more\u201d facing \u201cdirect attacks on their freedom of expression.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tBoth the SAG-AFTRA and WGA unions are speaking out after ABC pulled Jimmy Kimmel\u2018s talk show off the air indefinitely over the late-night host\u2019s comments about Charlie Kirk. A spokesperson for ABC confirmed to Us Weekly on Wednesday, September 17, that Jimmy Kimmel Live! would be \u201cpre-empted indefinitely.\u201d Kimmel, 57, spoke about Tyler Robinson being [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cRegardless of our political affiliation, or whether we engage in politics or not, we all love our country,\u201d the letter continued. \u201cWe also share the belief that our voices should never be silenced by those in power \u2014<\/span> because if it happens to one of us, it happens to all of us.\u201d<\/p>\n

The message concluded, \u201cThis is the moment to defend free speech across our nation. We encourage all Americans to join us, along with the ACLU, in the fight to defend and preserve our constitutionally protected rights.\u201d<\/p>\n

The letter was signed by 400 celebrities<\/a>, including Jennifer Aniston, Ben Stiller, Robert De Niro, Jean Smart, Natalie Portman, Zooey Deschanel, Meryl Streep<\/strong> and more.<\/p>\n

News broke on Wednesday, September 17, that Jimmy Kimmel Live!<\/em> would be removed from air<\/a> after his comments about Charlie Kir<\/strong>k, accused killer Tyler Robinson<\/strong> and President Donald Trump<\/strong>\u2019s reaction to the tragedy. (The conservative political activist was shot and killed at a Utah Valley University event on September 10. He was 31.)<\/p>\n

Kimmel, 57, shared his thoughts via X as news broke of the incident at Utah Valley University on September 10, writing, \u201cInstead of the angry finger-pointing, can we just for one day agree that it [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cJimmy Kimmel Live! will be preempted indefinitely,\u201d an ABC spokesperson<\/a> confirmed to Us Weekly<\/em> at the time.<\/p>\n

Nextstar Media \u2014 which owns multiple TV stations \u2014 reportedly threatened to remove Kimmel from the lineup, with the company telling Variety<\/em> in a statement that they \u201cstrongly\u201d objected to \u201crecent comments made by Mr. Kimmel concerning the killing of Charlie Kirk.\u201d Us<\/em> reached out to Kimmel for comment.<\/p>\n
