Matthew McConaughey<\/a> recently recalled a painful memory where he was lucky to escape with his life. <\/p>\n In his 2020 book \u201cGreenlights<\/a>,\u201d the Oscar-winning actor revealed that when he was 18, he was knocked unconscious and dragged to the back of a van where he was sexually assaulted by a man. <\/p>\n In a new interview with The Guardian<\/a>, McConaughey, 55, explained how, in that moment, he never felt so helpless, saying, \u201cI\u2019ve never felt so vulnerable and unable to do anything about it.\u201d<\/p>\n Fortunately, the \u201cInterstellar\u201d and \u201cDallas Buyers Club\u201d star woke up and managed to escape the dire situation \u201cright before it could have been worse,\u201d he said. \u201cTalk about divine intervention. I got out relatively unscathed. It could have been worse is what I\u2019m saying.\u201d <\/p>\n The Hollywood star added that escaping the hellish ordeal was defining in ways he still hasn\u2019t come to understand \u2018till this day. <\/p>\n \u201cDid it crush some innocence of mine? That my nice guy, young Matthew, believed in the innocence of the world and no one would try to do harm to me or anyone else unless I provoked it? Sure,\u201d he detailed.<\/p>\n He was fortunate enough to forge on and shot to stardom after appearing in the courtroom drama \u201cA Time to Kill\u201d in 1996. He then became one of the most coveted leading stars in romantic comedies of the 2000s. <\/p>\n He also starred in \u201cThe Wedding Planner\u201d <\/i>(2001) opposite Jennifer Lopez, \u201cHow to Lose a Guy in 10 Days\u201d <\/i>(2003), which he starred in alongside Kate Hudson, and \u201cFailure to Launch\u201d <\/i>(2006) <\/i>with Sarah Jessica Parker.<\/i><\/p>\n At another point during the interview, McConaughey said he doesn\u2019t know what to believe anymore anymore where politics are concerned. He also admitted that President Trump\u2019s disregard for the truth is cause for concern. <\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve been around politics and politicians enough to see and hear that the score is not always what they say it is; that they don\u2019t keep the score accurately,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n \u201cBut that\u2019s nothing new, either,\u201d he continued. \u201cYou can go back and there are many things to question over decades and centuries about what the truth was. Trump\u2019s going about things in a different way than other politicians have. It\u2019s direct.
