Jon Bon Jovi<\/a><\/strong> recently appeared on Bunnie XO<\/a><\/strong>\u2019s Dumb Blonde Podcast,<\/a> where he opened up about various topics, including being a grandfather, his relationship with his son and new daughter-in-law, Millie Bobby Brown<\/a>,<\/strong> as well as undergoing a major surgery to repair his atrophied vocal cords and the challenges that came along with it.<\/p>\n Of the latter, the Bon Jovi frontman, whose real name is John Francis Bongiovi<\/strong>, said it took him three years to recover from his vocal operation, despite trying to “will” his signature raspy pipes back into existence.\u00a0Bon Jovi\u2019s vocal struggles began in 2014, due to age, damage from overuse, and overexertion, however, at the time, he was unaware of the severity of the issue.<\/p>\n \u201cBy 2015,\u201d he told host Bunnie XO, 45, on the Monday, Sept. 22 episode, \u201cIt just wasn’t working right and I wasn\u2019t quite sure\u2026. I couldn\u2019t really understand why.\u201d<\/p>\n Bon Jovi, 63, explained that his band completed a short-length tour a year later for an album called This House Is Not For Sale, a No. 1 record. At that point, the rock icon said that \u201csomething was still going on.\u201d Finally, in 2022, Bon Jovi said it was his wife, Dorothea Hurley<\/strong>, who told him something was wrong.<\/p>\n \u201cSo by the time I get to 2022, now it\u2019s COVID-19, and the world shuts down, I\u2019m just saying, \u2018OK. I can will this thing back, and it just got to a point where I came off stage in Nashville, and I said to Dorothea, ‘It was good.’ She said, \u2018It wasn\u2019t good.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cShe\u2019s the only one on the planet that I know is not gonna BS me. You\u2019re either surrounded by \u2018yes\u2019 men, or people getting paid, or a fan that wants you to be good, and then you do your best. But, whose is the confessional box? It\u2019s her,\u201d Bon Jovi explained of how he knew he needed to have the surgery following his wife\u2019s reaction.<\/p>\n \u201cI ran to the doctor. I drove myself to the hospital. That\u2019s how eager I was to start this journey. I didn\u2019t know it was going to be three plus years of recovery. I can tell you that,\u201d Bon Jovi said, looking back.<\/p>\n These days, however, Bon Jovi insists, \u201cI\u2019m singing really well,\u201d but he adds, \u201cSomething can trip the wire and take me down the rabbit hole\u2026It sucks.\u201d<\/p>\n Now that he has recovered, Bon Jovi is currently in the midst of a comeback, and he says he now knows when to slow down. Looking back at his early years and his rise to stardom, the rocker recalled feeling the need to please everybody and never stopping to take time off to recharge.<\/p>\n \u201cOn more than one occasion, I would burn out. And, I\u2019m trying desperately now, in this vocal comeback, to only do it if I have joy,\u201d Bon Jovi noted of his current state of mind. \u201cIf it\u2019s work, I really don\u2019t want to do it\u2026I love the idea of performing, and if I\u2019m healthy, then never better.\u201d<\/p>\n Bon Jovi, who has developed a friendship and kinship with Bunnie XO\u2019s famous husband, Jelly Roll<\/a>,<\/strong> is reminded of his younger years when he thinks of the \u201cSave Me\u201d singer. So much so that he has become somewhat of a mentor to Jelly Roll, feeding his buddy advice now and then as someone who has been in the music business for decades.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen I first met Jelly Roll\u2026 one of the first things we did was I interviewed him for Interview Magazine, and in the magazine, I said to him, \u2018Don\u2019t do too much. Don\u2019t go chasing every rainbow because you\u2019re gonna burn out and not even know you\u2019re burned out.\u2019 And in my youth, I was doing that,\u201d Bon Jovi, a self-proclaimed go-getter in his younger years, said.<\/p>\n He added, \u201cThat is my fear for him still today: Jelly, don\u2019t do too much. He\u2019s established. He\u2019s a big star. He\u2019s done it, he\u2019s proved it, and he\u2019s an inspiration for millions of people. You don\u2019t have to chase every feature. You don\u2019t have to do every show. Go and chill for two years. I have absolutely learned how to do that.\u201d<\/p>\n Jelly Roll is one of the features on Bon Jovi\u2019s upcoming collaborative album titled Forever (Legendary Edition). The pair joined forces on \u201cLiving Proof\u201d \u2014 a reimagined version of the track from the band\u2019s 2024 album, Forever.<\/p>\n Forever (Legendary Edition) is available on Oct. 24 via Island Records.<\/p>\n Bon Jovi is also hoping to tour the album, although he has not yet confirmed a tour announcement as he keeps his vocals in check. If for any reason he\u2019s unable to support the record with live performances, he said, \u201cI can absolutely with conviction tell you that if I don’t perform again, my legacy is set. I\u2019m cool with it. I\u2019m great. I\u2019m good. We were an awesome live band, we sold a lot of records, I\u2019m good.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t need the applause. I don\u2019t yearn for the applause\u2026the only b\u2014ch that I had in this process, is OK God, you took it away.
