Whoopi Goldberg<\/strong> and her cohosts on The View<\/em> finally addressed<\/a> Jimmy Kimmel<\/strong>\u2019s suspension on Monday, September 22.<\/p>\n \u201cNow, look, did y\u2019all really think we weren\u2019t gonna talk about Jimmy Kimmel?\u201d she asked the audience, according to People<\/em><\/a>. \u201cI mean, have you watched the show over the last 29 seasons? So you know no one silences us.\u201d<\/p>\n Her comments came amid concerns from fans that the hosts had avoided discussing ABC\u2019s decision to pull Jimmy Kimmel Live!<\/em> off the air because of FCC chair Brendan Carr<\/strong>\u2019s comments that the daytime show could be next.<\/p>\n Goldberg explained they didn\u2019t mention the news on the September 18 episode because \u201cwe took a breath to see if Jimmy was going to say anything about it first.\u201d The next day\u2019s show was pre-taped, so September 22 was their first opportunity to dive into the topic.<\/p>\n \u201cTo be clear: you can not like a show and it can go off the air. Someone can say something they shouldn\u2019t and get taken off the air. But the government cannot \u2014 cannot \u2014 apply pressure to force someone to be silenced,\u201d Goldberg said, as her cohosts agreed.<\/p>\n Lawyer and cohost Sunny Hostin<\/strong> pointed out, \u201cOur founders drafted the First Amendment specifically to protect the rights of citizens who criticize the government.\u201d<\/p>\n And the show\u2019s most traditionally conservative cohost, Alyssa Farah Griffin<\/strong>, agreed. \u201cThe First Amendment is the first for a reason because you need to be able to hold those in power accountable.\u201d<\/p>\n As the National Enquirer<\/em> previously reported, ABC\u2019s indefinitely suspended<\/a> Kimmel\u2019s show after Nexstar Media Group \u2014 which operates 32 ABC stations \u2014 decided to preempt it over the 57-year-old host\u2019s comments on conservative activist Charlie Kirk<\/strong>\u2019s death.<\/p>\n The View<\/em> played clips from senators Rand Paul<\/strong><\/a>, Chris Murphy<\/strong><\/a> and Ted Cruz<\/strong><\/a> criticizing Carr\u2019s decision to speak out about the situation during an interview with Benny Johnson<\/strong> on September 17.<\/p>\n \u201cThis is a very, very serious issue right now for Disney. We can do this the easy way or the hard way.
