Late-night hosts celebrated the comeback of Jimmy Kimmel<\/a> after ABC temporarily suspended Jimmy Kimmel Live<\/em> last week.<\/p>\n Speaking on The Daily Show<\/em>, Jon Stewart recounted how ABC announced that Kimmel would return to TV on Tuesday night, noting that the audience response helped to convince Disney to do the right thing.<\/p>\n More from Rolling Stone<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cThat campaign that you all launched, pretending that you were going to cancel Hulu while secretly racing through four seasons of\u00a0Only Murders in the Building<\/em>, that really worked, congratulations,\u201d Stewart said. He added, \u201cWasn\u2019t it interesting, to try and figure out all the tentacles Disney has in your daily life? It\u2019s one thing to swear off cruises, but the Avengers? Nah. How is it possible that by getting rid of one company, I can\u2019t watch\u00a0Winnie the Pooh\u00a0<\/em>or\u00a0Monday Night Football<\/em>? Or listen to early Hilary Duff?\u201d<\/p>\n Stewart went on to discuss why Jimmy Kimmel Live<\/em> was pulled, joking that it \u201chad nothing to do with the Trump administration and their explicit FCC threat that they could remove the show the easy way or the hard way.\u201d<\/p>\n The host added that Donald Trump may need to look inward rather than continue cancelling everyone who criticizes him after playing a clip of a Fox news correspondent saying, \u201cIf Donald Trump wanted to take everyone off the air who had criticisms for him, there would basically only be a handful of individuals left on television.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThat is funny, but it\u2019s also maybe a cause for self-reflection?\u201d Stewart replied. \u201c\u2018Hey, if everybody on TV is criticizing me, except for like four people, and one of them is my daughter-in-law, am I the drama?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n On The Late Show<\/em>, Stephen Colbert explained that \u201cour long late-night national nightmare is over.\u201d \u201cThis is wonderful news for my dear friend Jimmy and his amazing staff,\u201d Colbert told his audience to loud applause and cheers. \u201cI\u2019m so happy for them.\u201d He added, picking up his new Emmy, \u201cPlus, now that Jimmy\u2019s not being cancelled I get to enjoy this again. He added, more seriously, \u201cSo Disney put Kimmel back on because you, the American people, were upset.\u201d<\/p>\n On Late Night<\/em>, Seth Meyers noted that there has been backlash from conservatives as well as liberals about how the Trump administration is censoring comedians, including from Ted Cruz. \u201cI want to say I agree with Ted Cruz and I want to say it because I feel pretty sure there won\u2019t be another occasion to say it,\u201d Meyers said.<\/p>\n Speaking specifically about Kimmel, Meyers also spoke about the \u201cmassive national backlash\u201d to the FCC attempting to silence the host. \u201cI haven\u2019t seen a poll yet, but I think if you asked Americans if the president should be dictating what TV hosts can and can\u2019t say, you\u2019d get about 3 percent positive and\u2026\u201d Meyers said before cutting to a clip of Trump saying, \u201c97 percent negative.\u201d<\/p>\n On Monday, Disney has reached a formal decision to bring\u00a0Kimmel\u00a0back to the ABC airwaves just one week after his indefinite suspension following statements he made on\u00a0Jimmy Kimmel Live<\/em> about Charlie Kirks\u2019 assassin and after a\u00a0threat from President Trump\u2019s FCC chair<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cLast Wednesday, we made the decision to suspend production on the show to avoid further inflaming a tense situation at an emotional moment for our country,\u201d the Walt Disney Company said in a statement. \u201cIt is a decision we made because we felt some of the comments were ill-timed and thus insensitive. We have spent the last days having thoughtful conversations with Jimmy, and after those conversations, we reached the decision to return the show on Tuesday.\u201d<\/p>\n Days after Kirk\u2019s murder, Kimmel questioned the political affiliation of the killer. \u201cWe hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them,\u201d he said, \u201cand doing everything they can to score political points from it.\u201d<\/p>\n Yesterday, the ACLU released an\u00a0open letter <\/a>signed by over 400 celebrities speaking out in support of Kimmel.
