Stephen Colbert kicked off \u201cThe Late Show\u201d on Monday by declaring that \u201cour long, national late-nightmare is over\u201d after ABC announced that Jimmy Kimmel\u2019s late-night program will return to the air<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cCOME ON!\u201d Colbert shouted as his audience erupted in applause.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cWoo! Woo! Yes, sir, as well it should be,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cIt\u2019s wonderful news for my dear friend Jimmy and his amazing staff,\u201d Colbert said, before joking that it means he can again brag about his recently-won Emmy for outstanding talk series, which he hadn\u2019t done out of mocking faux respect for Kimmel.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cOnce more, I am the only martyr in late night,\u201d Colbert cracked, referring to his own show currently being on borrowed time for what has been interpreted to be political reasons.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Colbert then addressed his bosses at CBS: \u201cWait. Unless, CBS, you want to announce anything? Huh? Huh? Huh? Huh? Still no? Right, because of the money thing, I forgot.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Kimmel\u2019s show will return to the air on Tuesday, just days after it was \u201cindefinitely\u201d suspended (amid government pressure) following MAGA anger over the host\u2019s comments about the assassination of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Colbert\u2019s show will end in May, a move that CBS has claimed is \u201cpurely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night\u201d and \u201cnothing to do\u201d with \u201cother matters happening at Paramount,\u201d such as its then seeking for the Trump administration\u2019s now-given approval to merge with Skydance Media.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
