Priscilla Presley<\/strong><\/a> is revisiting Lisa Marie Presley<\/strong><\/a> and Nicolas Cage<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s dramatic relationship.<\/p>\n

\u201cI liked Nicolas Cage from the beginning. Despite his stormy temper (which my daughter shared), he has a good heart and a great capacity for love. \u2026 Unfortunately, the kinetic attraction that drew them together also made it difficult for them to stay together,\u201d Priscilla, 80, wrote in her memoir, Softly As I Leave You<\/em>, which hit stands on Tuesday, September 23. \u201cThey were not only romantically passionate but also passionate, period.\u201d<\/p>\n

Priscilla added that her daughter, whom she welcomed with Elvis Presley<\/strong> in 1968, had \u201cinherited\u201d her father\u2019s \u201ctemper along with his good looks.\u201d She claimed Cage, now 61, \u201ccould match her in a fight toe to toe.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd oh my gosh, how they fought. They screamed and they yelled, they threw things, and sometimes they broke things. They broke up,\u201d she alleged. \u201cAnd the next day, or pretty close to it, they made up. Lisa and Nick broke up and made up so many times, it was dizzying.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tLisa Marie Presley, the only child of Elvis Presley and Priscilla Presley, made a name for herself in the public eye. She was only 9 years old when her father died in 1977. As she continued to grow up, Lisa Marie was quick to follow in her dad\u2019s footsteps. She released three albums over the [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Priscilla claimed that Lisa Marie and Cage\u2019s \u201csolution\u201d to bring stability into their relationship<\/a> was to get married, which they did in 2002.<\/p>\n

\u201cWatching the relationship was like watching a soap opera. I was not surprised when they proceeded with plans for their wedding,\u201d she penned. \u201cThough I had little hope that the marriage would last, I did my best to be optimistic.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Priscilla was worried about Lisa Marie\u2019s wedding day, she recalled how her daughter \u201clooked beautiful in a traditional wedding dress.\u201d However, her worries manifested three months later, when Cage filed for divorce.<\/p>\n

\u201cLisa called to tell me it was happening,\u201d she wrote. \u201cShe later described their relationship by saying she and Nick were like tyrannical pirates. When one pirate marries another, they sink the ship. It was an apt description.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lisa Marie and Cage finalized their divorce in 2004. Priscilla noted that despite the pair\u2019s \u201ctumultuous\u201d relationship, they were able to remain \u201cfriends.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNick later told Barbara Walters that he still missed Lisa every day, but if they got back together, things would end the same way,\u201d she recalled. \u201cThey were better off as friends. I think they both gained a little wisdom from the relationship.\u201d<\/p>\n

When Lisa Marie died<\/a> at age 54 in January 2023 due to cardiac arrest, Cage honored his late ex-wife<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is devastating news,\u201d the actor told The Hollywood Reporter at the time. \u201cLisa had the greatest laugh of anyone I ever met. She lit up every room, and I am heartbroken. I find some solace believing she is reunited with her son Benjamin.\u201d<\/p>\n
