On the track, Smote\u2019s primary creator Daniel Foggin, who played and sang almost everything on this record (alongside guest appearances from\u00a0<strong>Sally Mason<\/strong>\u00a0of the Smote live band on vocals and\u00a0the above mentioned Ian Lynch), says,<em>\u201cSnodgerss roughly translates to \u2018smooth grass\u2019 or \u2018long grass\u2019. Yet the primal, meditative aspects of this work, the act of communing with nature, its histories and its depths have fuelled his art on a profound level. As Daniel himself relates;\u00a0<em><strong>\u201cI think the music is a direct reflection of this feeling that I haven\u2019t quite managed to define yet, it is dirty and hard but there is an overwhelming comfort to it.\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Harnessing the elemental force of the earth, Smote\u2019s\u00a0<em>Songs from the Free House<\/em>\u00a0is a deeply rooted journey into sound. The album marries drone-based heaviness, reminiscent of Earth and Om, with the melodic structures of folk and the crumbling force of electronic music.
