(KTLA<\/a>) \u2013 In an appearance at a Spanish movie festival, Angelina Jolie said that she doesn\u2019t \u201crecognize\u201d the U.S.<\/p>\n She was asked by a member of the press at the San Sebasti\u00e1n International Film Festival<\/a> in northern Spain what she was \u201cafraid of as an artist and as an American\u201d in regard to a \u201cconcerning period\u201d surrounding free speech<\/a> in the United States.<\/p>\n \u201cI love my country, but I don\u2019t, at this time, recognize my country,\u201d she responded after considering the \u201cvery difficult\u201d question for a few moments.<\/p>\n The \u201cChangeling\u201d star also said that she and her family have always spent time living abroad while mentioning\u00a0she understands that censorship can be \u201cvery dangerous.\u201d<\/p>\n <\/a><\/figure>\n Angelina Jolie speaks to the media at the San Sebasti\u00e1n International Film Festival. My friends, my life, my worldview, is equal, united, international,\u201d Jolie said. \u201cAnything, anywhere that divides or\u2026limits personal expressions and freedoms from anyone is very dangerous.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI think these are such serious times that we have to be careful not to say things casually. So I\u2019ll be careful in a press conference,\u201d she added. \u201cBut these are very, very heavy times.\u201d<\/p>\n Jolie attended the festival for a showing of her latest film \u201cCouture,\u201d directed by Alice Winocour.<\/p>\n The festival began Sept. 19 and runs until Sept. 27.<\/p>\n Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
