ABC has reinstated “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” which it had suspended indefinitely following the host’s comments about the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.<\/p>\n
ABC said the late-night show and how are reinstated<\/a> and will return Tuesday night, Sept. 23.<\/p>\n \u201cLast Wednesday, we made the decision to suspend production on the show to avoid further inflaming a\u00a0tense situation at an emotional moment for our country<\/a>,\u201d Disney said in a Monday, Sept. 22, statement. \u201cWe have spent the last days having thoughtful conversations with Jimmy, and after those conversations, we reached the decision to return the show on Tuesday.\u201d<\/p>\n The reversal follows backlash in Hollywood<\/a>\u00a0and among the public that led to a growing\u00a0boycott campaign against Disney<\/a>.<\/p>\n During his opening monologue on Sept. 15, the “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire” the host criticized supporters of President\u00a0Donald Trump<\/a>\u00a0following the arrest of\u00a0Tyler Robinson<\/a>, a 22-year-old charged in Kirk’s murder.<\/p>\n Following the show, the the late-night host’s comments came under criticism from the head of the Federal Communications Commission, Brendan Carr.<\/p>\n “This is a very, very serious issue right now for Disney.\u00a0We can do this the easy way or the hard way,” Carr said. “Disney needs to see some change here, but the individual licensed stations that are taking their content, it’s time for them to step up and say this, you know, garbage to the extent that that’s what comes down the pipe in the future isn’t something that we think serves the needs of our local communities.”<\/p>\n More: <\/strong>Joke about Detroit got Jimmy Kimmel’s show pulled by WXYZ-TV back in 2004<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n “There’s calls for Kimmel to be fired,” he added. “I think you could certainly see a path forward for suspension over this.”<\/p>\n After Carr’s comments, Nexstar Media Group Inc. <\/a>said it would stop airing the show on its 32 ABC affiliates.<\/p>\n After Nexstar announced its decision, ABC<\/a> also stated that it would pull Kimmel from the air indefinitely.<\/p>\n Sinclair,<\/a> which owns some TV stations in Michigan, said the suspension wasn’t enough.<\/p>\n \u201cMr. Kimmel\u2019s remarks were inappropriate and deeply insensitive at a critical moment for our country,\u201d said Vice Chairman Jason Smith. \u201cWe believe broadcasters have a responsibility to educate and elevate respectful, constructive dialogue in our communities. We appreciate FCC Chairman Carr\u2019s remarks today and this incident highlights the critical need for the FCC to take immediate regulatory action to address control held over local broadcasters by the big national networks.\u201d<\/p>\n Sinclair, the chain said, <\/a>will not lift the suspension of \u201cJimmy Kimmel Live!\u201d on its stations until “formal discussions are held with ABC regarding the network\u2019s commitment to professionalism and accountability.”<\/p>\n The television group reaches approximately 38.7% of U.S. television households and includes FOX, ABC, MyTV, CW, CBS, NBC, Univision and Azteca affiliates.<\/p>\n Here’s what to know in Michigan:<\/p>\n “We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it,” Kimmel said during his Monday, Sept. 15 episode.<\/a><\/p>\n Tyler Robinson, 22, has since been charged with aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm, obstruction of justice, and witness tampering. His\u00a0precise motive remains unclear.<\/p>\n In a Sept. 11 episode<\/a> of\u00a0“Jimmy Kimmel Live<\/a>!” the TV show host condemned people who celebrated the killing of Kirk, who died at a Utah college speaking event on Sept. 10 in what Gov. Spencer Cox<\/a> called a “political assassination.”<\/p>\n Kimmel started his show by stating he has seen “extraordinarily vile responses from both sides of the political spectrum” and recounted the Sept. 10 shooting at a Colorado high school<\/a>, where a male student shot and injured two of his peers before dying from self-inflicted injuries.<\/p>\n Jimmy Kimmel’s late night show, which appears on ABC network stations, was pulled from all Sinclair, Nexstar<\/a>, and ABC stations.<\/p>\n In a statement<\/a>, ABC said, “Last Wednesday, we made the decision to suspend production on the show to avoid further inflaming a tense situation at an emotional moment for our country.
