From Superman to super librarian.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cSmallville\u201d actress Kristin Kreuk co-stars in the Fox drama \u201cMurder in a Small Town\u201d<\/a> returning for Season 2 on Sept 23 (8 p.m. on Fox).\u00a0<\/p>\n In the show, she plays librarian Cassandra, who is dating the local police chief, Karl Alberg (Rossif Sutherland).\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cWe have wonderful chemistry. It\u2019s fun, it\u2019s easy, he\u2019s a pro,\u201d Kreuk, 42,\u00a0 exclusively told The Post. \u201cI think it\u2019s really lovely that we get to play this relationship between these two characters as they are in mid-life, and really have a mature relationship.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cFor Cassandra, it\u2019s really her first serious relationship since she was in her 20s,\u201d the \u201cBeauty & The Beast\u201d actress added. \u201cSo, it\u2019s nice to really dig into what it means to have a relationship at this point in our lives.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n Unlike other murder mystery procedural shows that came before it (such as \u201cBones\u201d or \u201cCastle\u201d or even \u201cThe X-Files\u201d), Karl and Cassandra don\u2019t have a \u201cwill they or won\u2019t they\u201d dynamic.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cI love that we\u2019re looking at\u2026what does it mean to build a relationship? And finding the tension, drama, and passion within that longevity,\u201d Kreuk said.<\/p>\n \u201cI think there\u2019s an ease to \u2018Will they or won\u2019t they,\u2019 or love triangles, but I always wanted to see \u2013 we don\u2019t normally spend the majority of our time in \u2018will they or won\u2019t they,’\u201d she added. \u201cWe end up in relationships. And, there\u2019s beautiful drama within that.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n Kreuk first rose to fame starring on \u201cSmallville,\u201d the show about a young Superman which aired for 10 seasons between 2001 and 2011.\u00a0<\/p>\n The show followed a young Clark Kent (Tom Welling<\/a>), and his youthful adventures, including his romance with neighbor Lana Lang (Kreuk) and his friendship with Lex Luthor (Michael Rosenbaum).\u00a0<\/p>\n In the age of constant reboots and revivals, The Post asked if she\u2019d be open to revisiting it.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s funny, Tom and Michael who played Clark and Lex talked about a reboot of sorts for years, in an animated form \u2013 which feels like the way that you would do something like \u2018Smallville,\u2019 when all of us are old now,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n The \u201cBurden of Truth\u201d actress pointed out that since everyone has aged, she doesn\u2019t know that it would be possible\u00a0to revisit the story again \u201cas it was.\u201d<\/p>\n But, she added, \u201cwe\u2019ll see what they end up doing with an animated idea.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n Since the show, Henry Cavill\u2019s \u201cMan of Steel\u201d debuted in theaters and the most recent \u201cSuperman\u201d movie came out in July,<\/a> starring David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan. Kreuk thinks the different \u201cSuperman\u201d stories are for different people, and different times.\u00a0<\/p>\n For instance, she noted, when \u201cSmallville\u201d was airing, 9\/11 and the Iraq war were the main topics in the headlines.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cThere was a real desire for a clear moral compass, and for somebody who could clearly save things. And I think there\u2019s a desire for such things now as well.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cThese are iconic stories that I think will go on forever,\u201d Kreuk added. \u201cThey might go away for a while. But there\u2019s truth within them that storytellers can come back to, always.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cSmallville\u201d also became notorious for actress Allison Mack<\/a>, who was involved\u00a0 in \u201cNxivm<\/a>,\u201d the alleged \u201csex cult\u201d that was the subject of numerous documentaries, including HBO\u2019s \u201cThe Vow\u201d and \u201cSeduced: Inside the NXIVM Cult.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
