Halsey has revealed that her record label is keeping her from making more music.<\/p>\n
The \u201cCloser\u201d singer said she can\u2019t make another album because her label, Columbia Records, viewed the sales from her last record, \u201cThe Great Impersonator,\u201d as a failure.<\/p>\n
\u201cI can\u2019t make an album right now, I\u2019m not allowed to,\u201d Halsey said in a recent interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music<\/a>. \u201c\u2018The Great Impersonator\u2019 didn\u2019t perform the way they thought it was going to. And if I\u2019m being honest with you, the album sold 100,000 [expletive] copies first week \u2014 that\u2019s a pretty big first week. Especially for an artist who hasn\u2019t had a hit in a long time.”<\/p>\n The \u201cBad at Love\u201d singer went on to say that label executives expect her to repeat the success of her 2020 album, \u201cManic.\u201d That album \u2014 which contained the chart-topping, diamond-certified hit \u201cWithout Me\u201d \u2014 went on to sell more than 2 million copies.<\/p>\n \u201cThey want \u2018Manic\u2019 numbers from me. Everyone wants \u2018Manic\u2019 numbers from me. I can\u2019t do that every single time. It should be good enough that I do it once in a while. But it\u2019s not,\u201d Halsey told Lowe. \u201cAnd what would be considered a success story for most artists \u2014 100,000 albums first week in an era where we don\u2019t sell physical music, with no radio hit, nothing \u2014 it\u2019s a failure in the context of the kind of success I\u2019ve had previously.\u201d<\/p>\n The 3-time Grammy nominee<\/a> said that this is \u201cthe hardest part of having been a pop star once\u201d because \u201cI am being compared to numbers and to other people that I don\u2019t consider lateral to me.\u201d<\/p>\n Halsey added that she should rather be compared to \u201cthe other types of artists who are making the type of music that I am making.\u201d<\/p>\n Since Halsey\u2019s career took off in 2014, the singer has been dealing with some health issues over the last few years. She most recently revealed her Lupus diagnosis last year<\/a>.<\/p>\n Halsey said in an June 5 Instagram post<\/a> that she was first diagnosed with Lupus SLE and a rare T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder in 2022.<\/p>\n Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease that causes the body\u2019s immune system to attack healthy tissue, according to the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases<\/a>.<\/p>\n Meanwhile lymphoproliferative disorders cause monoclonal lymphocytosis, lymphadenopathy and bone marrow infiltration, the National Library of Medicine states<\/a>. While both conditions are being managed or are in remission, Halsey said she will likely have both for the rest of their life.<\/p>\n \u201cAfter a rocky start, I slowly got everything under control with the help of amazing doctors. After 2 years, I\u2019m feeling better and I\u2019m more grateful than ever to have music to turn to,\u201d wrote Halsey, whose real name is Ashley Frangipane. \u201cI can\u2019t wait to get back where I belong: With you all. Singing and screaming my heart out.\u201d<\/p>\n It was this experience that heavily inspired \u201cThe Great Impersonator,\u201d which was released in October 2024.<\/p>\n In August, Halsey announced<\/a> her \u201cBack to Badlands Tour\u201d<\/a> in honor of the 10th anniversary of her debut album, \u201cBadlands.\u201d The tour will include two stops at MGM Music Hall at Fenway in Boston on Nov. 2 and Nov. 3.<\/p>\n Read the original article on MassLive<\/a>.
