Carlos Vives brought his catalog of hits to NPR\u2019s Tiny Desk. The Colombian vallenato leader previously appeared on the Tiny Desk (At Home) series, but made a proper debut with an ambitious performance. Backed by a 12-piece band, Vives ran through seven songs in just under half an hour.<\/p>\n
Vives opened the set with \u201cLa Cachucha Bacana,\u201d followed by \u201cDiosa Coronada\u201d and \u201cElla.\u201d The set list selection comes in celebration of La Tierra del Olvido,<\/em> the pivotal record the musician released in 1995. The 30th anniversary festivities continued with \u201cAgua,\u201d title track \u201cLa Tierra del Olvido,\u201d and \u201cPa\u2019 Mayte.\u201d Vives closed the performance with \u201cFruta Fresca,\u201d which arrived on El Amor de Mi Tierra <\/em>a few years after La Tierra del Olvido<\/em>.<\/p>\n More from Rolling Stone<\/strong><\/p>\n Earlier this year, Vives reissued La Tierra del Olvido,<\/em> for its anniversary. The album followed the remastered and expanded edition of Cl\u00e1sicos de la Provincia<\/em> from 2023, which itself coincided with the release of the musician\u2019s 18th studio album, Escalona Nunca Se Hab\u00eda Grabado As\u00ed<\/a>. <\/em><\/p>\n Last year, Vives was named Person of the Year <\/a>at the 2024 Latin Grammy Awards. \u201cI am happy that The Latin Recording Academy celebrated el rock de mi pueblo by choosing me as the Person of the Year in this 25th-anniversary edition,\u201d Vives told Rolling Stone <\/em>at the time. \u201cMy songs connect the spirits of our American and Hispanic diversity.\u201d<\/p>\n He added: \u201cI share this recognition with all those who taught me to love my Colombian heritage and with my musician friends who have always believed that our rock & roll is born from local music.
