Doja Cat<\/a> has hit back at \u201charsh criticism\u201d from fans after sharing the new album cover for \u2018Vie\u2019.<\/p>\n Back in April, the \u2018Say So\u2019 artist\u00a0began teasing her new era<\/a>, and since then has been steadily sharing snippets of the project. Last month, she\u00a0hosted a surprise album-listening preview party<\/a> and later announced the record is due for release this Friday (September 26). You can pre-order \/pre-save here<\/a>.<\/p>\n Ahead of the album rollout, she\u2019s also been sharing a series of alternate covers, with most being visually in keeping with the apparent \u201980s direction of her upcoming record<\/a>. Today (Tuesday September 23), Doja shared the official cover, a marked departure from that aesthetic that sees her suspended from a yellow parachute stuck in the branches of a tree.<\/p>\n Explaining its significance, she told fans the parachute represented curiosity, happiness, and adventure. Writing on Instagram, she added that the tree was intended to reflect \u201clife and wisdom\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cGiving you a sense of safety within its branches, but the pain from the fall teaches you that those scratches can be healed. You don\u2019t have to hit the ground,\u201d she wrote. \u201cLove grows upward but more importantly down. It\u2019s the roots that keep you steady. This is the cover of my album.\u201d<\/p>\n It proved divisive among fans, many of whom said it felt out place with previous alternative covers she\u2019d shared. \u201cPretty,\u201d wrote<\/a> one fan, \u201cbut I don\u2019t get this roll out. Is it all 80\u2019s inspired or was that just the lead song?<\/p>\n Some were harsher, quipping<\/a> that \u201cher budget must\u2019ve been $50\u201d and saying<\/a> \u201cartistically, this era is all over the place.\u201d<\/p>\n After catching wind of the backlash, Doja took to X\/Twitter to say: \u201cYou can\u2019t make me feel bad for a cover that has visceral meaning. The greatest armor is love and integrity. I forgive your harsh criticism but for me I won yet again for following my heart.
