Bachelor Nation, it’s time for Mel Owens <\/a>to find love. The second season of The Golden Bachelor kicks off this Wednesday, Sept. 24, with 23 women competing for Mel Owens’ heart. Owens, 66, is a retired NFL linebacker who played for the Los Angeles Rams before becoming a sports lawyer. The divorced father of two found himself in hot water earlier this year over comments he made<\/a> on the MGoBlue<\/em> podcast for his alma mater, the University of Michigan, regarding the senior women he’ll be dating on the show.<\/p>\n

“They ask me, ‘What\u2019s your preference?’ So I just said 45 to 60, just being honest,” he said on the podcast. “And then we had lunch with the executive producer. I said, ‘You know, if they\u2019re 60 or over, I’m cutting them.'”<\/p>\n

Despite Owens’ comments, all but one of the 23 contestants on this season of The Golden Bachelor <\/em>are over the age of 60 \u2014 one is even the twin sister of Sandra Mason from Gerry Turner’s season of the show!
