Nev Schulman has apologised to fans Catfish was cancelled after nine seasons.
The longrunning reality show – which investigated deceptive online relationships – has been scrapped by MTV 13 years after the first series aired, and Nev and his former co-star Max Joseph have confirmed the news.
In a video shared on Instagram, Nev said: “After 12 years, 300 episodes and just a lot of traveling around this incredible country, Catfish has officially been cancelled.
“Sorry.\u201d
Despite the disappointing news, Max – who left the show in 2018 – suggested the show could just be “on pause” if another network is willing to take it on.
He also praised Nev for lasting “over a decade on cable television in this day and age”, and paid tribute to the fans for tuning in.
He said: “You guys have been awesome, and you made the show worth continuing to do.
\u201cEven though I left, you still have come up to me and you tell me how much you love watching it. And that you like watching it with your parents, or parents you like watching it with your kids. It\u2019s this family event.
“I don\u2019t know, it\u2019s been heartwarming to hear from you guys and just to know what the show means to you.\u201d
Nev – who was joined by Kamie Crawford from 2018 to 2024 after Max’s departure – thanked everyone who contributed to the show over the years and shared their stories.
He added: “I mean that\u2019s what the show was. It was you guys and hopefully being helpful to all of you. So, thank you for being a part of this. “For turning what was an idea and a documentary into a global conversation about curiosity, and compassion. And just really setting a higher standard for how we treat people and how we treat ourselves.
\u201cThanks to everyone who had a part in this. We are so grateful to all of you. Max, I\u2019m so grateful to you for really being there from day one.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
