In a press release, the company stated on Tuesday that it would \u201ccontinue to preempt\u201d the series and \u201cmonitor\u201d the late-night host\u2019s return to television.<\/p>\n Last week, Kimmel was \u201cindefinitely<\/a>\u201d suspended by ABC after comments he made on\u00a0Jimmy Kimmel Live!<\/em>\u00a0about the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk and following a\u00a0threat from President Donald Trump\u2019s FCC chair.<\/p>\n More from Rolling Stone<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cWe made a decision last week to preempt \u2018Jimmy Kimmel Live!\u2019 following what ABC referred to as Mr. Kimmel\u2019s \u2018ill-timed and insensitive\u2019 comments at a critical time<\/a> in our national discourse,\u201d Nexstar said. \u201cWe stand by that decision pending assurance that all parties are committed to fostering an environment of respectful, constructive dialogue in the markets we serve.\u201d<\/p>\n The comment<\/a> Kimmel made that was deemed \u201cinsensitive\u201d enough to halt the long-running, late-night series, impacting not just the host but also the extensive crew that keeps the show running, was, \u201cWe hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it.\u201d Kimmel then pointed out that on more than one occasion, Trump redirected questions about Kirk\u2019s death to the construction of a ballroom in the White House.<\/p>\n Disney reached a formal decision to bring the series back<\/a> following \u201cthoughtful conversations with Jimmy,\u201d the Walt Disney Company said in a statement.<\/p>\n On Monday, Sept. 22, ACLU published an open letter<\/a> signed by more than 400 figures across the entertainment industry that pushed back against \u201cgovernment threats to our freedom of speech.\u201d The letter read, \u201cIn an attempt to silence its critics, our government has resorted to threatening the livelihoods of journalists, talk show hosts, artists, creatives, and entertainers across the board.
