Ratboys have shared a new single, \u2018Light Night Mountains All That\u2019<\/a>, which accompanies the announcement that they\u2019ve signed to to New West Records<\/a>. The track features piano by co-producer Chris Walla, while guitarist Dave Sagan, drummer Marcus Nuccio, and bassist Sean Neumann keep up a frantic pace that Julia Steiner capably and cathartically sings over. It seems to continue their pattern of releasing a sprawling single<\/a> to kickstart a rollout, and it\u2019s pretty astonishing. Check out a video for it below.<\/p>\n \u201cMy original idea was to write an ultra-high energy folk song, in the style of The Dodos\u2019 Visiter<\/em>, with somewhat spooky, mysterious, and pastoral lyrics \u2013 like what Chris Otepka of The Heligoats might conjure up on a mushroom trip,\u201d Steiner said of the new single in a statement. \u201cThis song really took shape during our initial writing session up at the Driftless Cabin in Wisconsin last March; the guys and I nearly went insane fleshing out the arrangement and its odd timings together. I wrote the lyrics during that original demoing trip, centered around the idea of a fantastic, rural vision-quest where the days and nights blend together and nothing is quite as it seems.\u201d<\/p>\n The accompanying video, directed by Nuccio, was shot at farm in Central Illinois. \u201cWe used a bunch of DV cameras to convene with some benevolent rock and roll ghosts we met along the way,\u201d Steiner added.<\/p>\n \u2018Light Night Mountains All That\u2019 marks Ratboys\u2019 first new music since 2023\u2019s The Window<\/em>.
