The first words Mariah Carey<\/a> utters on her 16th<\/sup> studio album are quintessential diva.<\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t care about much if it ain\u2019t about Mi\/Let the money talk first, conversations ain\u2019t free.\u201d<\/p>\n Those lyrics in \u201cMi,\u201d the opening track of \u201cHere for It All,\u201d out Sept. 26, summarize Carey\u2019s undiminished cheekiness. She\u2019s a pop goddess who sings her demands for Harry Winston diamonds and hot tubs over a finger-snapping groove, but she\u2019s also flatly serious when she flips the script with the reminder \u201cyou couldn\u2019t walk a mile in my shoes.\u201d<\/p>\n Such is the glorious dichotomy of Carey<\/a>, who, on her first new studio album since 2018\u2019s \u201cCaution,\u201d is equally terse (\u201cI won\u2019t entertain all your narcissistic ways,\u201d she snaps in \u201cType Dangerous\u201d) and tender (\u201cI won\u2019t let you break when you fall,\u201d she promises on the title track).<\/p>\n Mariah Carey releases “Here for It All,” her first new album in seven years, on Sept. 26, 2025.<\/p>\n Working with Anderson .Paak throughout the album, most distinctly on \u201cPlay This Song<\/a>,\u201d a sly homage to The Stylistics\u2019 \u201cYou Are Everything\u201d<\/a> that spotlights .Paak’s Silk Sonic<\/a> feel, Carey has opened up her sound on these 11 tracks.<\/p>\n Even 35 years into a career that’s earned her a list of accolades, including five Grammy Awards<\/a>, a spot in the Songwriters Hall of Fame<\/a> and a Video Vanguard Award<\/a> from MTV, Carey, 56, hasn\u2019t abandoned artistic growth.<\/p>\n Here are four of the best songs on \u201cHere for It All\u201d:<\/p>\n 1<\/span> of 37<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n It’s Mariah’s world, and we’re all just living in it. Mariah Carey has ruled the pop sphere since her self-titled debut studio album arrived in June 1990, and there appears to be no end to her reign, whether its on the charts or as the Queen of Christmas. Stocked with swirling synths and a driving bass line, the song sounds custom made for roller rinks in the \u201870s, but is equally irresistible today.<\/p>\n Despite her bona fides as a songwriter, Carey also possesses a flair for a well-chosen cover. Her smash renditions of the Jackson 5\u2019s \u201cI\u2019ll Be There\u201d <\/a>(1992) and Badfinger\/Harry Nilsson\u2019s \u201cWithout You\u201d<\/a> (1993) are associated with her as readily as her own \u201cVision of Love\u201d and \u201cHero.\u201d Here, she deftly handles \u201cMy Love,\u201d<\/a> the 1973 swooner from Paul McCartney & Wings written for McCartney\u2019s soulmate, Linda. The ballad is a bit overproduced, but when the synths and organic guitar slowly disappear in a wake of strings, Carey\u2019s layered, crystalline voice sparkles. <\/p>\n The final track on the album is a hymn of devotion that clocks in at more than six minutes. Mellifluous piano chords anchor the first half of the song as Carey coos, \u201cHere for the glory, the shakes, the withdrawals\/even when you bounce off the walls\/baby I\u2019m here for it all,\u201d her voice overflowing with warmth. But Carey steers the song into an interesting detour. As the sweetly melodic ballad tapers, a gentle beat kicks in and Carey vocalizes words of religious praise over a syncopated coda for the last two minutes, her five-octave voice punctuating her patented melismatic style.<\/p>\n<\/span><\/div>\n
